If Sony refuses to implement system wide drm, publishers can always implement it themselves: online activation via product key, online checks when starting the game. And you'll end up with an EA account, Ubisoft account, etc. In that case Microsofts' system wide drm system suddenly starts looking better, offering easier installation and at least some, albeit mutilated, form of second hand sales. Of course those publishers might think twice. They'll obviously be excluding offline console users, and it will give others, like CDProjekt, a chance to steal the spotlight. It looks to be a game of chicken at the moment. |
There will be no online checks if it happens.
and there would be no point in adding it if the devs are getting money from the used games.
