Forums - Gaming - What can Sony do to compete with Xbox One on the non-gaming features side?

Hopefully they just focus on the games, I dont want my ps4 for TV.

As long as there is a bit boost on what the had for the ps3 then ill be happy, but I buy consoles to play games you see :)

Its funny since Ps3 was THE media center when it was released (and even more after Blu-ray won),now Xbox tries and will most likely succeed better than Ps4 in non gaming related stuff. But I think since they decided to name it Xbox One, many consumers will think it just a game console, no matter what we "pros" try to tell them...

yeah they see xbox the word game game game would ding in their head....

Skype i guess but there ain't really anything i want from Sony's multimedia except vidzone maybe but that's on PS3 already. I prefer having games

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

Nothing IMO, the very reason i'm not purchasing an Xone is because its not a gaming console. They put all this emphasis on media stuff, all while still having a craptastic first party development team. Thats why i laughed at the 15 exclusives comment yeah, if real most of which will be subpar or kinect related.

And most PS3 new IPs were successful this generation stop pretending that all Xbox exclusives were Halo & Gears. Many did downright terrible in sales, and Microsoft scrapped all of them because of it. Kameo being 1, Crackdown another. The list is big.

Sony has already showed that PS4 can compete with XBO just fine in multi-tasking and multi-media. PS4 has dedicated chips to take care of the most intense OS tasks, so that the main CPU and GPU can stay focused on running the game. There will be plenty of Picture in Picture on PS4, and no shortage of apps to run in them.

Cloud storage, content streaming, and the connected experience were the main points Sony showed during the PS4 conference. This in fact was said to be not only for PS4, but company wide. All content on SEN is going to leverage the Gaikai tech, and bring media to all Sony connected devices.

PSEYE will ship with every PS4 and be an integral part of the system. This is a device built from the ground up with two 720p/60fps cameras, and a 4 channel microphone. Voice and gesture control will be there just like they were on PS3 before. Sony has put 10 years of R & D into this field, so this is not anything new to them.

You have to hand it to MS though. They are the masters of doing the same thing as everyone else, and making people believe they are the inventor and industry leader.

Sony can create an open SDK for third parties to build apps as well as games. Google can integrate hangouts and google voice, google tv, google drive, spotify can build an app, Dropbox, pandora, etc. Having a closed system that requires deals to be made with each software maker will hinder that app growth so keeping it open is key.

I don't think even the WiiU will be left behind in multimedia stuff, as long as there are multitasking and you can put games on the background it will be find.

I really don't understand why Xbox fans or gamer are so hyped with Skype integration on Xbone, its the worst.

First of all *i m sure this happens to majority of gamers* when i m playing a game, stuck on a level getting frustrated and trying best to keep my rage under control, not throw the controller at TV or put fist through a wall.. and the last thing i want is somebody call me and causing my game to pause. Party video chat again no no. voice is just perfect.

Second the the best way to use skype is on the phone. even its something i don't think casual people will prefer, i mean turning on the tv to talk on skype via living room surround system for neighbors to hear

I will any day take Game spectating/broadcasting, Cloud streaming BC, Remote play, social aspect of gaming over skype and other stuff that xbox has to offer.. I m sure Sony too has a video feature but it will be great if its not during gaming.

And also I play PS3 games on my 26" Monitor in my room.. Coz the last time i kept my PS3 in the living room i hardly got time to play it coz people were hogging the TV all the time.. So the feature that PS4 announced were gaming centric.. and what Xbone announced was just for living room and i dont want a console in my living room.
