Forums - Gaming - Could E3 actually be good this year?

Square Enix will surely show the teaser of a teaser that announces the announcement of the teaser of the new Final Fantasy Versus XIII (probably Final Fantasy Versus XV), that will be released in 2020...

Microsoft have said E3 is going to be about games! Several times. They said that the Xone will have 15 exclusives in the first year alone. The article is on the front page... Not understanding your reasoning.

People keep throwing this number around like it means something. Whether 15 exclusives or 5 or 50, it means nothing until we see those games.

Case in point: the Wii U, some six months after launch, already has at least 8 exclusive games (NSMBU, Nintendo Land, ZombiU, Lego City Undercover, Sing Party, Rabbids Land, Game Party Champions, Family Party: 30 Great Games) and at least 2 home console exclusives (Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Tank Tank Tank). Several of these are "original IP" as well. Now consider how many of them are just bad games. Hint: it's half of them. Not only is there no guarantee that some of Microsoft's 15 exclusive games won't be bad, it's pretty much a no-brainer that they're going to count every possible game in their number of "exclusives" no matter how bad it is. You can bet the executives aren't saying, "Those five games will be very bad, only tell people there will be 15 exclusives so they don't get their hopes up."

Now consider that the Wii U's 8-10 exclusives is not including "special edition" re-releases of older games or downloadable exclusives, and there is again no guarantee that Microsoft is not including such titles in their "exclusives" count.

I'm just trying to make the case that saying your console will have 15 exclusive games in its first year means nothing, and the Wii U is proof, because for all its technical exclusives, it has had the most embarassingly dry release schedule I've ever seen for the past 5 months.

Unless by their first year, Microsoft means the ~6 weeks between the XB1 release and the end of 2013. That might be impressive. But that's not how I interpret the statement.

How does it mean nothing? By the way this is shaping up, the Xone could have the biggest launch line-up of all 3. You can't compare the WiiU in terms of game releases that aren't exclusives. It has very little 3rd party support. I know this because certain people on this site were drilling it into our heads 15 threads a day before the One's reveal. 3rd party sales came to %80 of all software sold during the last gen for the 360 AND PS3, I also understand 15 exclusives in the first year will probably mean in the first 12 months and not during 2013... That would be crazy. Still, that on top of the 3rd party games will end up being a new game every 2 weeks (on average). It means nothing.... Lol.

I also like how you assume half of them will be bad games.... I know some of them will be, but half?  I'm not sure whether you're trying to downplay or what...

I'm not assuming half of them will be bad games. But you should be prepared for the possibility that ALL of them could be bad games. That is what I mean when I say the number is meaningless; we don't know anything about them yet.

The Wii U comparison was used to show that 15 exclusive games across 6 months isn't all that many unless half of them are major blockbuster titles. 15 exclusives across 12 months is even less.

My point is that this "15 exclusives, 8 original IP" thing is completely non-clarified marketing speak. And practically by definition, that means they're including every game they can think of that fits those descriptions. If they have a small, exclusive downloadable title, why wouldn't they include it? They didn't say 15 exclusive retail games.

Come on now. You know one of them is going to be Kinect Sports Season 3. How many others will be Kinect titles?

I'm just asking people to take this vague bit of marketing hype with a grain of salt.

XB1 may get as many major third-party titles as the PS4, and as many exclusives, but from the sound of things, it won't have half as many indie games.

Sony last year wasnt too bad.

I have hopes that it will be better this year though. I wanna see quite a bit of Vita games announced.

I hope it's true that rumor of 90 minutes of Pokémon...

Im the optimistic type, so I expect the hype to be lived up to this time. So much is at stake for these next gen systems, although I dont expect much from Microsoft.

No. From Nintendo's press releases all through the year it's been announced that e3 this year will bear a heavy focus on games. For Microsoft, it's not clear it could go either way. Their showcase told us "we're not focused on games but on entertainment, games included", but then e3 is a gaming convention so it also makes sense that they reserved the showcase for general entertainment reveals and e3 for game reveals. It's up in the air.

Yeah, with both Sony and Microsoft getting the "boring" part of their new console reveal done before E3, they should keep the interface/specs/features talk to a minimum and focus on the games.

I may be a fool for hyping myself for E3 yet again, but I'm not delusional enough to expect anything from Square Enix.

I think that you must be having a stroke, Trucks.

If nothing else, we will have a lot to talk about this year and the mod queue will be full.

I think about a MS conference without EA sports, TV, and COD (since allready talked about)........and I just get excited to think about what could take up that time instead :D

360 mini and LONG OVERDUE 360 price drops would be icing on cake.
