maybe they have not shown the ps4 because the console is as ugly as the xbox1/3 and the japanese are too gentle to shock people first.

if this is the case it will just be the next betamax vs vhs war all over again and playing games from videotapes must be an interessting experience.

IYO, IMO the XB0 is the best looking console to date. Finally a game system that dosn't scream kids toy. Hope Sony goes the same direction, and PS4 looks like a high end A/V product.

@TheLastStarFighter

As far as changes being to late, this might not be totally impossible. Sony made a change to PS3 hardware last minute adding HDMI to the 20GB unit.

I don't think that a barbecue grill(ps3 fat) and

a bread box(real xbox 1) scream kids toy.

neither the ps3 slim,simple but elegant,no toy

this xbox looks like an edged wii u(left side) stucked together with another wii u (without slot(right side)

combined looking like a vhs.but you are right-it looks like a a/v product, but not a high end one, more of the kind"made in china"

btw-i don't care about the design.i'd even buy a console if it looks like a flowerpot or a pink poodle as long as i like the games.

You're in the minority, the general consensus: Its fugly. It doesn't have to look like a kids toy, but its still lazy designing, they didn't do much with it, and it practically looks like a VCR from the 80s. Then again, American companies aren't that great when it comes to designing electronics....... or cars. Dell being another example, designing some of the most awful laptop & desktop designs to grace the computer hardware industry.

american companies were the best i designing things-in the 50ies,60ies and 70ies.

So many beautyful cars like ford mustang, corvette stingray, the electronics looked beautiful-even the diners and the chewing gum machines.

don't know what happenend to them in the meantime, except some pinball machines from the 90ies most things looks really ugly.

They wanted to wait and see what the Microsoft Conference would show everyone. I am sure they had someone on the inside tip them off as well.

Now Sony can decide if they want to show off the PS4 at E3, or if they want to do a bit more work on it before they put it out. Or think about what else they need to add to compete this holiday season.

Any other benefits Sony can get from this?

- Build up some momentum before the competition, while holding a few things back for E3.

- Be the first to unveil their next gen console and games.

- Get people more excited for E3 when they actually show the console and price.

- Get people talking about the PS4 (guess this falls in line with my first point)

Um, hello? We've known that like since forever?

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

I may be the few that liked NGC design, but even I thought Nintendo was pushing it. But Microsoft went far too simplistic design, more generic in my eyes... The purple lunchbox has more style than this!

I bet Sony can come up with a more sleek (aesthetic at least) look in a month. ;)
