It's because 90% of the people who play it only play it because their friends do..that's kind of the definition of a sheep.

You have proof of that?  I buy Call of Duty because it along with Halo is the best online shooter.

  1. domesticated mammal: a stocky hooved animal, with ribbed horns in the male.

Jay, your "i'm totally unbiased and like both consoles equally, I swear, HONEST" routine is wearing thing when you always rush to defend Microsoft regardless of the circumstances.

You are right, what goes on in forums such as these don't dictate what works and what doesn't, but since the majority of people on forums such as these are real gamers, our reaction to what is going on in the industry DOES determine what is successful, TO US.

I said something about Microsoft, Sony, nintendo?  I'm pretty sure I didn't.  I said something about Call of Duty.

This entire thread is a damage control thread.

No harm no foul, not upset or anything. Just giving my opinion.

Not true at all. Some of those things may be panned in this niche of a forum but Call of Duty, Battlefield, many FPS, and sports games have followings elsewhere on the interwebs.

Are you assuming things here?  First you come in to call people who buy games like call of duty sheep (Granted you have an avatar of a series that has over 100 installments) and now you are accusing me of damage control?

So if you like Call of Duty you are a sheep?  Is that because they have sequels or because they are popular?  Or maybe just because they are good and it's why people like them.  They just don't visit forums to testify there love for them.

Well said, UnitSmiley. The same holds true for Final Fantasy, so I spit on it.

Because casual gamers just love FF right? Soccer moms and grandparents everywhere are rushing to the stores to get the latest FF game so their kid can be popular at school :p

Those were the days..... <3

Interesting thread at an interesting time.

Indeed. CoD has a strong online presence. I don't like CoD too much either but to say we're core because we're online yet they're online too but not core? Ehhh... The theory has holes.

Yup, i'm totally making assumptions that this thread has nothing to do with the negativity surrounding the Xbox One. My obvious mistake.

Final Fantasty has always been popular amongst gaming enthusiasts. It's never been a "omg mom dad buy me this so I can play with all my friends" type of thing. It's never been trendy with casuals, it's never been the "go to" gift for grandkids during the holidays.

If anything the two are pretty much opposites with FF being popular online, but not as much in real life.

Yes, Final Fantasy is a casual JRPG, so it's bought by casuals. How else do you explain FF's sales in comparison with other JRPG series like Tales, Shin Megami Tensei etc.?

If the people who buy Final Fantasy were real JRPG fans, then other JRPGs should sell big as well. It's not happening though. The series is picked up by the uneducated masses who buy it because their friends buy it.

Wait a minute? casuals buy jrpgs? I thought for sure FPS's have been the genre oversaturating the market? Damn guess i've been wrong this whole time...

You're kidding right?

Edit: Rol beat me too it, but yeah... Pretty much.
