Forums - Gaming - No component out for Xbone?

Look I hate to be jumping on the bandwagon of the Xbox hate here but how many people still have SDTVs?

What about outside America?

It's 2013. I haven't owned a CRT for years. Even my kitchen TV is a 23" HD.

Xbone, lol, I love it. X-BONE. I find it far funnier than I probably should.

I guess Microsoft is pretty clearly giving a big "Fuck you" to all the families with a dedicated gaming room for the kids. Those usually have pretty old TVs. They are basically saying, "Put this in your main living room, or don't buy it." Which is what they want given the non-gaming focus.

That little port next to the ethernet is for old school AV output. I saw it labeled earlier in some pics. Check around the web and you should find it.

It's called a S/PDIF Output, it's digital audio output.  It isn't for old school Audio or Video, just primarily used when you connect your console to an AV Receiver/Amplifier.  Because I haven't heard of a 5.1/7.1 TV yet.  Some AV Receiver/Amplifiers don't allow for audio input on HDMI input because it's meant as a video only input/output on the receiver/amplifier.

SPDIF is the primary audio interconnect for most other audio only stereo components.

does it matter, the console is obviously an entertainment hub. how much entertainment are you really going to get with an old school SDTV

Umm, they are just screens that display an image.  So, the same exact amount of entertainment?

In the UK, I would imagine the Xbox One would include a SCART connector as it is mandatory. So, the UK is covered fairly easily.

The Xbox One I'm guessing is intended for HD TVs. So if you're not on 720p or higher, you're gonna have a bad time. There are too many compromises in trying to work with smaller screens, both in in trying to fit content on the screen as well as make text work.

For those thinking the PS4 will be any different, I sincerely doubt it. Sony has FAR more interest in you buying a 3D HD or 4K TV than Microsoft does. There comes a point when you have to let go of ancient technology (i.e. SD TVs) and embrace HD.
