Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo's new revenue stream - peripherals

Already had four Wavebirds, and use them for both GC and VC games, so that's cool for me...

So yeah, had to buy three wiimotes and three nunchucks... but that's the same with any console you buy, when you want some 4 player fun, so where's the problem? Even got Wii play as a nearly free bonus, so, can't really complain...

And you know what? I intend to purchase THREE more wheels with my future Mario Kart copy, and sure, man, i'll ENJOY playin' it with my kids and some of my friends... it will be pure madness, and great fun, couldn't care less about the extra bucks...

And also, when you see the price of a PS3/360 plus 3 controllers, i think a "multiplayer Wii" is still a very affordable console, and a great purchase... so, each his own... at least, i'm havin' fun... and it's ONLY the first year...

It's a shame they don't still sell gamecube controllers in the US, I only have 2, I suppose I could buy some used ones, but I'll probably just let people fight over which controller they want when smash comes out.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

Well Fax, you are not forced to buy the controllers if you don't want to. I'm gonna play with what came with the Wii, the mote and the chuk. That's why Brawl gives you all the controller options. You are not forced to buy a game that needs a different controller either. If you want it, that's a different story, but there are plenty of great games that can be enjoyed at their best with what comes in the box.

No but seriously. I dont mean that to critizie Nintendo in any way. It truly is a smart business decision. Maybe we need to start tracking sales of peripherals.

@mike: yes, controllers have been around for some time. but such a massive influx of first party peripherals is just astounding...

Regular NES controller, Max, Advantage, Zapper, Power Glove, Power Pad...

I think Nintendo is up to something.

did they all come out pretty much within the first year of the consoles life?

i am also not saying anone is forced to buy the peripherals. also, i did not attack nintendo or anything. i just wanted to point out a very nice source for company revenue, which, at least to my understanding, has seldomly been tapped as extensive as now.

Case: WiiZapper. Question: Would Links Crossbowtraining exist without the Zapper? Would the Zapper exist without the game?

another good example of a "input device" and game symbiosis. zapper no success without Link, Link no success without the zapper. in the end, big revenue for ninty.

umm bad example.

With any system to play 4 player games would require 4 controllers. Last I checked they all cost $60 for wireless versions and for the price of their system you only get one which means you have to buy 3. So here they are all equal.

WiiFit can be compared to Guitar Hero/Rock Band/DDR. You want the game you need the guitar/board. So this can also be thrown out.

SSBB can be played with any controller combination you can think of. The hasn't released yet so who knows if the GC controller is the best option. Again, if it is so much better than playing with the wiimote/nunchuk, then it is also just like GH. Basically a mute point.

The only real extras that are basically needed for full Wii enjoyment is 2 extra classic controllers. $40. wow. Nintendo is robbing me. /sarcasm

We got two thought processes here.

Person 1: playing with a zapper sounds fun. i like those peripherals. and you get the game for only like 10 bucks more. hey, ill buy it.

Person 2: the game has link in it. i love link. sounds fun shooting at targets. and you get that neat peripheral basically for nothing with it. hey, ill buy it.

Well, the "without anyone complaining" made it look like you where complaining hehe.
