Having a crap net connection some of the time, my online gaming is nigh non-existant, so I value any game that has a split screen very highly. Without it, I'm sure Twisted Metal would have never been as successful in my household.
Hmm, pie.

the best multiplayer games are those that are not split screen, such as Powerstone2 and SSBM, cause dividing a screen into smaller quadrants is stupid especially with smaller tv's.
I my self use to think that I needed to have split screen but in all honesty I much prefer online/lan multiplayer, I just wasn't my own screen, but then again I am a PC gamer so I'm just use to looking at my own screen all the time when playing lan games.
to each their own I guess.
Speaking of which: I want a new TM game for the PS3... WITH splitscren iyp
No splitscreen is easily the biggest problem with Motorstorm and Burnout Paradise. Road Rage without splitscreen is like Siegfried without Roy.

All first person shooters feature online, but no splitscreen, all race games feature online, but no splitscreen. What's next, Singstar without a multiplayer component? |
I think motorstorm left out splitscreen becuase of time restraints. I would expect splitscreen will probably be implemented in it's sequel.
I'm surprised Burnout doesn't have splitscreen.
As for the highlighted part, that isn't correct. You can play R:FOM splitscreen co-op, and splitscreen multiplayer.

If you want to play games with friends buy a wii and if you want to play games online get a 360.

Finally a non-MK64hater....
On topic, some devs doesnt want to sacriffice eye-candy for some spli-screen action, maybe the real problem is how the game works, maybe they don't have the time and money to make a good split screen feature....
I agree, mutiplayer on a single console is much more fun in most games.
I wonder how much of Wii's success is because of Nintendo's focus on "social" gaming?

Do you not have friends who don't have a PS3 and/pr selected game they would like to play?
Cause for me, that tends to be a problem. For example my girlfriend lives with me... so i'm not going to buy a second Wii and copy of said game just so we can play co-op in the same house. I'm definitly not buying a second PS3 either... or one Xbox AND pay for online cause my roommate only has one 360.
To someone who has a lot of friends, lack of splitscreen and online split screen is a serious gip.

@FJ-Warez
I think you are right, they only have the budget to implement network multiplayer OR local multiplayer and they pick networked.
