With Mario Kart being playable at E3, I find it hard to believe it's not coming out for the holidays. Out of 3D Mario, Zelda, and Smash, Mario Kart takes by far the least amount of development time. Color me extremely suspicious about this supposed 'source'.

I definitely think the 'Mario Kart featuring Sonic' is a very real possibility, though.  It fits with Iwata's admission in January's Wii U Direct that they were actively seeking partnerships with third-party developers to help them make a sufficient number of titles for Wii U, since development is more expensive and takes longer than ever before.  Shin Megami X Fire Emblem was only the beginning.  Believe.

If they're making a proper "Mario Kart", Sonic or not, I don't want Sega developing it. Pass.

I doubt MK8 will launch in 2014. The fact that it will be playable at E3 makes me think it will launch by the end of the year. Nintendo usualy likes to reveal games when they are months away of realease, with a few exception.

Bayonetta in SSB... I can't help but wonder how they would animate her moves. >_

We'll see if this turns out true but a Mario guest star in Sonic Riders makes a lot more sense than a Mario/Sonic Kart.
Mario would boost Sonic Riders sales and both companies profit as a result. A Sega produced Mario/Sonic Kart would only benefit Sega as it wouldn't boost Mario Kart sales at all.

However if Mario Kart 8 misses this holiday season, then it's going to suck to be WiiU.

If it's co-development, such with the old EAD Mario Kart team as well as the guys that make Sonic All-Stars Racing, I'd be fine with it.  There would be enough "Nintendo in there" to make sure the quality and track design was up to par, and also add a bit of flair to what I feel like has become a fairly stale Mario Kart formula.  Double Dash was the series' peak, in my opinion.
