Ok let's compare.

Gt5 11 million so far

halo 3, ~11 million sold

halo reach 10.5 mmillion sold

halo 4, 8.5 million sold

halo wars, 2.5 million sold

so you are saying it fair to compare 4 halo game sales number to one game sale numbers? Yes halo bring more money to ms as business in business perspective this gen. "Frequency of release has nothing to do which ip brought in more money to ms and Sony. This isn't suppose to be fair...it's business" if this is the case gran turismo is the bigger ip than halo. Gt series sold 70 million and halo series 50 million sold. Gt is the better business. Yes gt been out longer then halo but this is business... It's not suppose to be fair.

Dont forget GT5:P and GT PSP. They are part of GT too ya know.

And here we go....the core arguments are laid out. You side with lifetime sales and I side with current gen sales.

I just question the idea of games sales in the 90s and early 2000's applying to MS and Sony today. Surely they both would base future GT and Halo sales projections on recent releases, not ones released a decade ago. That, is why I feel lifetime sales comparisons make no sense in this particular case.

But hey, agree to disagree I suppose. What happens once Halo overtakes GT lifetime sales? I guess these threads will disappear :P

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Comparing random IPs isn't getting you anywhere. The question is what is bigger.....$$$$ is the only logical way to determine. Offcourse Need for Speed is a bigger IP....it too is multiplat and a annual release.

Your argument is referring to 1 vs 1. The major flaw is that it isn't the full picture. You must compare all games, as is the thread title. I use this gen only as it is current and gives a accurate picture of current levels. That means comparing every GT and every Halo this gen.

Sorry I just disagree. Need For Speed isn't a bigger than Halo or GT.

If it's the multiplatform that is bugging you I will (not that I want to) compare sales of GT5 and the last combined 4 forza games. Adding up the last 3 or 4 Forza games will give you a higher number than GT5. So that means Forza is bigger than GT5? No

If the only logical way to answer this was by $$$$ and number of games this gen... then the thread would never need to be created because the question was already answered before it was asked.

And by that logical way of thinking. Almost any game in the last 5 years is bigger than Half Life. Aliens CM is bigger than Half Life

You can't argue with numbers. You are on vgchartz. Look up the total sales of Need for Speed this gen and compare it to GT sales this gen and tell me GT is more valuable. lol you can't.

Your Forza example is very wrong too as GT5 isn't a loner.......it has GT5:P and GT PSP sales. IP sales means ALL games. GT as a IP outsold Forza as a IP this gen. Sooo that point too has been debunked.

Your third line can only be answered because many people don't see this as a business question. They answer with their emotions and preferences when this is a pure industry and numbers question. You are one such example that has much trouble grasping this concept with the Half life comment. Sure Half life has a great following and buzz....but actual sales this gen are lacking. Thats Valves fault, not the IP mind you.

I just disagree with you. Yeah numbers/sales is a big part of the answer to the question, but there is more to it.

Not sure how you debunked the Forza GT comment. I said GT was bigger. So you didn't debunk... you agreed

It's not emotions or preference. Halo is bigger than Need For Speed. When a new Halo comes out it's a big deal. Nothing like that when a new Need For Speed comes out. Need For Speed has the numbers it does because they release the same game over 3 or 4 platforms.

Your way of solving this question is very flawed. Epic Mickey isn't bigger than Half Life. Your logic is wrong

I am not going to argue this with you until the end of time. I also will not insult you like you clearly tried to do to me in your last post. But your logic is wrong. Epic Mickey, Aliens CM, or any game in the last 5 years that sold 1 million units isn't bigger than Half Life just because Valve hasn't made a new Half Life

Gran Turismo because it has sold more.

Not this gen.

But GT4 might change that!

Nah, just kidding. Halo sold more this gen. :-p

The fuck do I care about gens? GT has sold more, thats an undeniable fact.

You can't just look at how many units were sold throughout the life of the series. Using your logic, IPs that have become irrelevant

But GT isnt irrelevant. It sold more than Halo.

A: Reported for repeatedly calling someone a fanboy and claiming users who have serious discussions about Microsoft are Xbox fanboys.

B: Halo and Gran Turismo are similar, one is the leader in first party in FPS and the other is the market leader in first party for racing/sim.

In terms of sales GT started earlier and one bigger install bases, but mainline GT and Halo games are par nowadays.

GT6 on PS3 will do so much worse than GT5. Can't wait to compare it to Halo 4.
If GT had yearly releases, it would not be even close to Halo.

Weren't you the individual that claimed "God of War III wouldn't get close to 5 million"? Perhaps you should be a bit more flexible on your predictions, especially when they are Sony related. :P

1st: The prediction I made is almost 4 years old I guess. Really?
2nd: God of War III never made it to 5 million, but it got closer than I thought. I give you that.
3rd: offtopic?

Anyway, your predictions, regarding Sony, are generally skewed. Saying: "I can't wait to compare it to Halo 4" is an eyebrow scratcher. Besides it being the biggest first party IP from Sony, will it be comparable to a game that launched a year earlier? Do you consider that a better comparison than, say, Halo: Reach vs GT5?

Link or it did not happen. You are making things up now.
I remember that I was wrong for a Resident Evil 5 prediction regarding the PS3 and Xbox 360 split in 2009. Why don't you try to dig that up?

And the timeline between GT6 and Halo 4 is just perfect to compare. If anything, Halo: Reach is an advantage for GT in this comparison.

Xbox 360 released in 2005, Halo 4 in 2012, 2 years after the last major Halo release.
PS3 released in 2006, GT6 in 2013, 3 years after the last major GT release.

Sounds like a reasonable comparison, don't you think?

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Comparing 5 GT games with 7 Halo Games (not counting Wars) it's pretty obvious that GT is a little bit bigger sales wise.

There is a hell of lot of more than five GT games:

Gran Turismo

Gran Turismo 2

Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec

Gran Turismo 4

Gran Turismo 5

Gran Turismo 6

Gran Turismo Concept: 2001 Tokyo

Gran Turismo Concept: 2002 Tokyo-Seoul

Gran Turismo Concept: 2002 Tokyo-Geneva

Gran Turismo 4 Prologue

Gran Turismo 4 Online

Gran Turismo HD

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue

Gran Turismo (PSP)

Did I say GT was irrelevent? Nope.

You've determined over all equals bigger. You aren't considering GT has been around longer and Halo is closing the sales gap. Halo is doing that because its bigger.

Look at it this way. Since 2001, Gran Turismo has apparently sold 50 million units. But that number is bloated with heavy bundling, a PSP release, and Prologues.

The number Halo has sold in retail on consoles is about 55 million. But we don't know how much that series sold digitally and on the PC. There was a Halo Reach digital bundle we aren't even counting.

If you want further proof Halo is bigger. Go to Walmart and tell me which series has more merchandise. Halo or Gran Turismo.

In Japan and Europe GT is bigger. In Europe Halo is popular, but GT seems to have a bigger following.

In America though, there is no question, Halo is a phenomenon. Much bigger than GT. And honestly they deserve it, Halo is a great series. And I'm glad Bungie are multiplatform now, they will continue to make great games.

I don't think i've seen this asked yet, which series do people believe is more future proof? That is the biggest underlying factor to which is the biggest franchise.

Wait now it not fair to compare gt to halo because there's more gt games released in its lifetime then halo? But it's ok to compare gt5 to the halo Series this gen?
