From NeoGaf:

Electronic Arts Inc., EA +3.08% fresh off announcing it cut 10% of its workforce to trim costs, is investing in a new Los Angeles studio for its Stockholm-based DICE game developer with the goal of poaching talent from rivals like Activision Blizzard Inc. ATVI +3.13%

The DICE unit, purchased by EA in the middle of the last decade, will be a key cog in the creation of a new series of Star Wars videogames. Walt Disney Co. DIS +0.22% announced last week that it enlisted EA to make Star Wars games weeks after closing its LucasArts games division.

...

As DICE begins the initial phases of sketching out ideas for a new Star Wars game, it is in the process of opening a Los Angeles office this month to help with recruiting talent, General Manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson said in an interview at the Stockholm office.

"There is an extreme talent pool over that we want a part of," he said. "It's no secret that our main competitor is there," referring to Activision's Infinity Ward and Treyarch operations, which use Southern California studios to work on the popular Call of Duty game that outsells Battlefield.

While not divulging specific numbers, Mr. Troedsson said the DICE studio represents a significant investment with plans to add 60 staffers by the end of 2013. He said the firm is looking to add the best talent in the business for the venture, and that DICE needs to expand its wings following the success of the Battlefield franchise.

Good, or bad? I'm pumped either way.

Awesome, can't wait for some next-gen Star Wars goodness! Hoping for some sequels (KotOR 3, Battlefront 3) and new titles (like the Avalanche Studios open world Star Wars game).
I'm very happy that EA got the deal, the best possible choice in my opinion, giving us a decent chance for new instalments in franchises that people are desperately begging for, for too many years.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

Wait.....this is the former Danger Close? The studio that made Warfighter?

They better hire A LOT of new people

THIS USER IS BANNED UNTIL HE WATCHES STAR WARS

Have never been into star wars, have never even seen star wars in fact, but I'm hoping this is a good reason to finally indulge.

So it won't be the DICE that makes the Battlefield games the ones who will make a Star Wars game but another studio that they still don't have...

Yep, excellent news.

No, really. I'm sure that it will still be a good game (if DICE is in control, not EA), but how much?

Please excuse my bad English.

Former gaming PC: i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Current gaming PC: R5-7600, 32GB RAM 6000MT/s (CL30) and a RX 9060XT 16GB

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Not sure since it isn't the whole dice team working on it. Still it could be good though.

Good the star wars IP should have it's own developer. I would rather see the other developers EA is using on Star Wars games to primarily focus on other titles.
