Forums - Sony - how should Sony handle PS+ on the PS4?

so i was thinking about how sony should handle PS+ when the PS4 launches. should they give out free games right away? wouldnt that effect software sales a lot? or would it make getting a PS4 cheaper for PS+ members and more likely increase the sales of the PS4 at launch?

what about Gaikai? should sony increase the the PS+ subscription to inculde gaikai services, keep it the same, or just let the Gaikai  services be accessible to anyone?

if Sony were to include PS+ right from the start on PS4, how many and what games should they include?

there are too many things to think about and to many advatanges and disadvantages for each move. what should they do?

Well, here are some scenarios
PS4 Subscription- Maybe a couple years of ps pus to lower the price.
Lets say the ps4 starts at $400, so maybe this model will be $300.
PS+ could most likely get away with ps3/indie games for free since it's only the launch window.

Gaikai-really not sure. I assuming this will be a ps plus function. It is only at the beginning stages I think so you can prob stream only a small amount of games at launch. It might eventually increase to every game.

We might simply have to wait for PS4 games to join the IGC. Hopefully there will be discounts on PS4 downloadable games from the start, however. That would be awesome.

It would be nice if they could get PS4 "versions" of recent PS3 games working, as well. Something like Killzone 3 would be perfect.

It will launch about 6 months after the ps4. And will offer a few launch games and Gakia access.

I think every game should be free for PS+ subscribers.

more like The Last of Us. im certain if that game could move some PS4's to 360 owners who want to play the game but dont want to buy a current gen system and are looking to buy a new next gen system.

so you are saying they should just start with discounts and demo's for the PS4 then add some games after a few monhts? or they should bring PS+ for the PS4 a few months late like they did with the vita and give away some games then?

Here are some rough numbers I came up with for Gaikai subscriptions & PS+

For Gaikai:
$5 per month subscription:
Access to: 5 different PS3/PSV/PSP/PS1&2 titles a month for 2 months rental time.

$10 per month subscription:
Access to 10 different PS3/PSV/PSP/PS1&2 titles a month for 4 months rental time.

$15 dollars a month subscription:
Unlimited titles for unlimited time.

For PS+:

The PS+ yearly subscription will be cut by $5 dollars if you buy the $5 dollar plan. (together)
The PS+ yearly subscription will be cut by $10 dollars if you buy the $10 dollar plan. (together)
The PS+ yearly subscription will be cut by $15 dollars if you buy the $15 dollar plan. (together)

No contracts, all plans are pay as you go.

Yearly breakdowns:

$5 x 12 = $60 X 1,000,000 subscribers = $60 million per year.
$10 x 12 = $120 x 1,000,000 subscribers = $120 million per year.
$15 x 12 = $180 x 1,000,000 subscribers = $180 million per year.

Not including the PS+ membership revenue.

EDIT: I had to Edit some things to make it be more clear.

The Last of Us is too soon at launch, they would be killing its holiday sales.  Better they should bundle that with the PS3.  If they could put a PS4 version on PSN with a discount, though, that would be a nice move.

PS+ should be on the PS4 from Day One.  It should include some PS4 indie releases on discount, also from Day One.  I'm sure they can easily find developers who would jump at the chance, since a lot of PS4 indie releases are already confirmed.  I'm just saying we will probably have to wait awhile to see a PS4-only entry into the IGC.  Some people might complain, though I think it would be understandable.  Better they get PS4 versions of good PS3 games working, though.

What I would love to see (but doubt) are launch discounts for games like DriveClub and KZ:SF on PSN from launch.  That would awesome.

I think a delayed PS+ instant game collection/free games is in order. It would be nice to have the other benefits of the sub model, and new benefits too perhaps gaikai related before they actual can do free games.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

I'm hoping it's there from launch, but I don't need the deals right away. I think it'll have the trials, cloud saves, and some discounts from the start. Maybe they could offer classics free on it.

On price I think it'll stay the same. I'm already subbed till late 2014 so what I'm going to get charged $10 extra for that time that I already paid for? I also think Plus will include all the gaikai and spectating stuff.

I think everything other than game streaming, free trials, cloud saves, spectating, streaming and taking over others' games will be free. That includes the basic online play, cross chat, auto updates, store access, app access, and the sharing. I think sharing will be free because having that button on the controller will just be weird if a large part of the user base can't use it.
