Its so interesting to look at Sony's first party games in Japan. They are garnering praise and sales success in most regions. But in Japan, they are dwarfed by Nintendo's first party offerings. So much that the Switch took only about 2 years to surpass the PS4's LTD sales in Japan that was recorded dating back to 2014. That's almost unheard of. And that is despite the PS4 getting the majority of AA/AAA third party games (and still is to this day). PS4 even had the onslaught of Monster Hunter World, Resident Evil 7 (and 2 Remake), Kingdom Hearts 3, and Devil May Cry 5 within the last couple of years (and will have Final Fantasy VII Remake coming in March 2020). What's just as crazy is even though KH3, one of the most highly anticipated games in 2019, released this year, its been surpassed by Smash Bros. Ultimate in 2019 sales. Just mind-blowing.

Yea with Splatoon, Smash, Mario Kart, 2D Mario, 3D Mario and Pokemon Nintendo has 6 IPs that sell on the level or higher than MH and DQ (all versions combined) in Japan, while FF dropped pretty far behind that. Nintendo 1st party is just sooo much more popular than anything else there - it wouldn't surprise me if a single Nintendo game outsold all Sony 1st party games in a gen combined.

Dont forget Animal Crossing, it sold like 6 million on 3DS in Japan alone.
