Those would be terrible sales for a game that costs much more to produce than 3DS MH games.

You do realise games have cost more then MH to make and sold less but still been very profitable?

You do realize companies want to maximise profits? Higher costs for a 400% drop in sales would be terrible business. Anything less than 3 million sold in Japan will be a disaster. Ideally it would need to sell 4 million units.

It's no wonder most big Japanese publishers are doing terrible worldwide (outside Nintendo).

MHW will do good in Japan. No1 should expect it to be as high as others. Doing 500k+ is good enough for it. Has a chance at 1mil, the only thing that can hurt it imo is a mh5 announcement

500k-750k lifetime will not be good enough, that would be horrible for a mainline monster hunter now (The Wii one 1 million that should be the standard that it needs to live up to). I know the Japanese gamers here (those that follow the charts) excepted things like Final Fantasy selling 1 million as good, but things like that are not good, when you have huge decline from previous entry, namely in the strongest region for the game (this relates to Monster Hunter). It needs to beat Tri for the Wii, or at least rival the wii version to be good enough.

It is like those that said Persona 5 just needs to rivaling Persona 4 Golden to be great (It needed to do better to be great, which it did), we need to stop lowering the standards for success.

It can do 700k in Japan and still do really well in the west though. Plus home console games have a higher ASP, so Capcom gets more per copy than they would from a 3DS title.

Just look at FFXV. Squeenix focused on western sales and while the game hasn't stopped selling, it seems to have paid off, especially if we factor in digital sales.

I cannot imagine toilet-free life.

Kebabs have a unique attribute compared to other consumables. To unlock this effect you need to wolf down a big ass kebab really fast, like under 10 minutes or so and wait for the effect to kick in. If done correctly your movements should feel unbelievably heavy to the point where you literally cannot move at all.

Why do people suddenly care about capcom financials so much the minute Nintendo stop getting MH?

Why didn't you care when psp stopped getting MH and Vita never got it?  That's a lot of lost sales for an easy port of the 3DS games.  The only way that financially made sense was if the rumour of Nintendo paying 100m+ for exclusivity is true.

Regardless they've made a game to focus on the other platforms and the west.  We don't know their plans but this situation makes financial sense.

2017:

MHXX - 3DS

MHXX - Switch

Early 2018

MHW - PS4 only Japan,  XB1/PS4/PC in the west

Holiday 2018

MHW (MH5) ultra version - SWITCH/PS4 in Japan possibly in the west too PS4/PC/SW/XB

That makes good financial sense.  People keep bringing up profitability but they only think short term. Do you want them to keep making cheap games with ps2 assets forever?  MH is long overdue an upgrade.

They are investing in much better assets with MHW and those assets will be used again in future Switch versions and future console versions if they decide to make more on ps4/XB/pc.

That is only a fact if we ignore that the game isn´t just selling in Japan. Nothing in Capcoms financial reports suggests that they expect insane sales for this game. I think the secret MH title we didn´t know was this, which is planned to sell 2M copies. 2M worldwide sounds extremly doable.

Because the last Monster Hunter game that the PSP game got was over 5 years ago. People weren't here back then. And Capcom was in a different financial position.

Also, MH has only increased in popularity ever since CAPCOM THEMSELVES decided to go with Nintendo instead of PlayStation. So what's your point, Mr. "Splatoon gets 16 points? Good. Gundam and DQ PS4 get 5 points? BEAST MODE!!!"? WHAT'S 👏 YOUR 👏 POINT? 👏

Anyway, look at little Radiant Historia getting one point again. Keep getting them points!

I think you need to reel in the personal attacks there buddy.

I'll educate you on Vgchartz.  A lot of people were here 5 years ago.

And another thing is MH hit it's peak on psp. Who knows if they went with vita,  it might have had continued growth instead of stalling and declining.

"People didn't care when it was Sony. Now they care because it is Nintendo". Its very clear what you're implying. Its very clear what you're trying to spin it to. Might as well call it for what it is.

Was there a COMG topic when MHP3RD was up for preorder? Where they same users in this topic nowadays, the same users back then? " Educate me on that.

Oh yes? Please explain how selling over 1 million copies on the West for the first time ever, while also having the best selling console entry in the series, while having spin offs that mostly performed as well as the main entries, while increasing the active fan base in Japan and in the West is less of a peak than what the PSP days were? How's it a decline when the overall Japanese market went downhill and MH remained almost the same while increasing it's popularity in the West "not a peak"?

If anything the series has EXPANDED, while it would have (most likely) gone downhill if it ever went to the Vita.

You should keep your expectations in check, especially when comparing games focused on the west vs. Japan.

FFXV and MHW are focused on the west, and the devs know full well that they may lose sales in Japan as a result. Both got major marketing in the west compared to Japan so far.

Persona 5 and DQXI on the other hand are focused on Japan. Minimal marketing in the west.

FFXV did great in Japan, but it did much better in the west to make up for a minor loss of sales. MHW hopes for the same. Persona 5 and DQXI hope for the same amount of sales in Japan, but a little boost in the west would be great too.
