Minecraft recently just came out, so hopefully that would keep the Switch holding steady at above 40k, unless stock becomes a major issue.

Yeah, It'll be interesting to see if Splatoon can hold on to that, or if Splatoon 2 will be able to take it away from all of them, well that is if we can clarify a gen to put the Switch in, but so far every attempt has failed at having a clear answer. But Splatoon is still currently 500k copies ahead of it's closest selling (Non Nintendo title) so it's on a high pedestal to reach.

Holy crap!!! DQ VIII was really killing it back then! DQ IX had a great start but seems to have had a slow finish if it "only" got 2917 points. Pokemon Sun/Moon really looks almost laughable compared to those two numbers

Interesting is definitely the word for the battle for Splatoon's throne! As for the Switch's gen, while that's difficult to determine, when looking at Japan I think that it's unfair to compare it to the PS4 and Wii U as its Japanese sales and reception seem far more in line with a handheld's. Personally I'd say the Switch is gen 9, but even if one considers it gen 8, a comparison with PS4/WiiU is unfair (Switch will probs have at least 10 games that beat Splatoon 1 anyway :P).

DQ8 ended up with a lot more points than DQ9 but both games sold similarly in the first week:
