The same goes for FFXV.  Basically a new Ip or a spin off in a different genre.  It basically went from Japanese to western RPG.  It would be like CoD going from first person to third person.

*facepalm*

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

No ffxv was a spin off game that became a main entry.  If it sold this well as a spin off people would be praising it but square tried to sell it as a main line title and its only mildly paid off.

They can try all they want but in reality, both FFXV and RE7 have completely changed the core of the series. Might aswell give it a new name. They're new IPs in all but names.

And I'm delighted to see them do so well. Ps4 is in good hands. Way up on the ps3 launches aligned and these titles play their part.

Dude i love playstation as much as you but don't be blinded by your love.  They aren't doing great,  that's that.  You don't set out on a new direction with an ip to lose fans,  you do it to get new fans!  This obviously hasn't worked for RE7 in Japan.  It will probably work in the west,  but not in Japan.

I'm starting to think you genuinely believe this.  Like for the longest time I thought you were just doing it to wind people up, but I'm wondering whether you've just convinced yourself this is the truth to like stop yourself from coming to grips with the state of these franchises.

These games changed because the market changed.  Lest we forget that both of these franchises underwent multiple changes in the past to attempt to keep up with market trends (Resi 4 & nearly every prior FF attest to that).  That doesn't make these entries "new IP's", if anything it makes them even more part of these IP's than ever before.

I'll agree with you that now more than ever they're chasing the western AAA money and not focusing on the Japanese market, but that doesn't mean they should be happy with poor results in the domestic market.  A well-made Japanese game transcends cultural divides, something these companies have struggled with throughout the 7th gen.
