Quite easy answer, Tabata took the reign and is the producer of the game therefore, commercial success or failure will be associated with him and his career, while Nomura will be responsible for other productions. If a completely new mainline FF doesn´t sell 1 million units in Japan it just means it isn´t appealing enough and there is something wrong in this regard. The excuse of market condition is also pretty weak, considering even WiiU (a console) has a few million sellers in Japan.

That`s because the WiiU has crazy attach rates. Something FF does not have. It would need way above 30% attachrate FW to to get the normal numbers for the franchise, that`s just impossible.

When FF15 launches, PS4s sales won´t be that much different to PS3s when FF13 launched, when it comes to actual quantity comparison rather than percentage-wise. Past mainline mainline FF games were so appealing to gamers in Japan that people actually bought the system in large quantities to play these games. System-sellers are called so for a reason.

What's the general consensus on Persona 5 at the moment.

Are the pre orders looking good?

Anyone want to suggest what we could see opening week based on the current COMG numbers.

Thinking between 250,000-300,000 opening would be my guess and possibly bit more depending on the last days (for example it could be something like 323,035).

Also really depends on the ratio comparisons, and how much importance one puts on that.

Also the preorder numbers are really good, one of the few franchise that has an uptick. (ratios are much better than they use to be if I recall correctly, so even if is slightly below the previous entry in the end in COMG, it most likely will be above previous entry in terms of week 1 sales.)

I want to say 250k-300k for the PS4 version and like 50k-75k for the PS3 version. So hopefully at least 350k combined. I'd be very disappointed if it ends up below 300k FW.

I think 300k seem a fair estimate. Possible 350K but seem a bit too much imo

Awesome! Thanks guys.

I was expecting a slight uptick, but I have to say I'm a bit more impressed with how it's tracking so far. Hopefully it can do very well!

Even just 6 months ago, P5 predictions have been far more optimistic - lowered expectations I guess.

Difference here is that XIII didn`t launch after an entire generation filled with sequels to a mainline game that wasn`t all that popular. And it was the first HD FF, that also gave it some major boost.

What I`m trying to say is that XV isn`t moving in preorders like it does because of appeal but because of the entire situation. That includes the change on the market, basically non present mainstream audience (which was still there, atleast to some capacity, last generation) and an entire generation with sequels to the same game. Then on top of those things is the fact that it is different from other mainline games and has a long and troubled development history, you can`t expect consumers to blindly preorder the game and doing as well as usual with all those things considered.

I agree, FFXV is not appealing.

Nomura won´t have to deal with its performance be it positive or negative, that´s a quite clear concept, therefore it looks like that he might have dodged the bullet if these comg preorders are any indication. All these arguments are pretty irrelevant when it comes to SQEX bottom-line and to how FF15 performance in Japan compared to previous titles will be judged. There is no doubt that Tabata will be made responsible by SQEX.

Just talking about comg numbers now, just look at how close FF15 is to Persona 5 and Persona 4...

Yeah I remember when people said it would not stand a chance against FF or Tales. Looks like it will beat at least one of them.

This is somewhat of a weird comparison, but Metal Gear Solid V has most COMG points of released PS4 game so far and it looks like Persona 5 has a really good chance of beating it. MGS V ended with 292 pts and had a First Week of 292,652 according to Media Create.
