So bayo (PS3) opened with 138k... what the fuck?

The game was unplayable on PS3, which probably turned off many from the franchise.

I'm just in the crowd that if a publisher announces sales figures and they're not citing a source, it's shipped.

Well at least now the bet is more fun to watch, and the wait more painful to bear, it is a win-win till the results come officially tomorrow.

I think we already have a winner for the Super Smash Bros bet:

http://www.nintendo.co.jp/corporate/release/2014/140916.html

Over 1 million sold (including eShop) in the first 2 days, as well as over 1 million retail shipments during the weekend.

Hiska, Nintendo announcing their shipped + digital has very little bearing on the bet I made with Clyde.

No. Nintendo is announcing sold (in Japanese 販売 = sold). It says sold more than a million (including digital).

Then, in the last part Nintendo says they shipped (in japanese shipped is 出荷) one million at retail.

so the meaning is Sold retail + digital = over 1 million

shipment alone over 1 million.

ther're two different sentences.

I'm just in the crowd that if a publisher announces sales figures and they're not citing a source, it's shipped.

It is a lot easier to track sales in Japan then most places. But since your bet is MC+ Famitsu / 2  then it will only include half of the digital. That is only if MC does not include digital too.

It was the average assuming Smash Bros didn't run on low stock. Then it would be Famitsu.

The weekly numbers that Famitsu releases include download cards sales which are not a digital sale. Despite this, there are still instances where the tracking evens out. Many instances where MC is higher than Famitsu. It's a wash.

So what happens if Famitsu is much higher than MC?

What is the threshold for much higher? 50k? 75k? 100k? If you weren't confident about the terms, then why did you want to make it?

I was just verifying it with you. Anything you wouldn't normally see. 20-10K is normal. 30K is stretching. 40K is when you know something is there. If you want to rename the terms, that'll be fine.

40-50k is quite common on big games. When you're talking 800k+ FWs, a 5-6% difference is expected and well within a margin of error.

Congrats on winning that bet, Clyde. And congrats to Smash. And either Japan needs to learn what good games look like or Nintendo needs to seriously start advertising things that aren't Mario Kart and Smash Bros.
