Forums - Nintendo - Wii U CPU + GPU clock speeds increased? Is it even possible?

ethomaz said:

I never said CPUs can't be clocked lower... this is make everytime by AMD/Intel to separete the models.... the CPU can run from 1Ghz to 4Ghz and they get and fix the clock in lower models and release it in high-end models (the CPU chip in most case is the same... so there are dual-core with 2Ghz to 4Ghz).

That not puting things like user change of clock (known as overclock).

I said the CPU in Wii U can't reach these clock without a change in the cooling system... and the CPU Arch used not reach these clock (3Ghz+).

That what I said by impossible.

i don't know if the rumour is true or not, but you can't say that if you don't know what the cooling system can do. certainly, wii u may have been built to handle those clock speeds in the first place.

I know... the Wii U get hot here and the cooler can't handle that... I can't see a big increase of clock working with this cooler... maybe 1.6Ghz it can handle.

Pretty much ever processor ever made is "underclocked".  They do this to keep reliability.  I'm not saying that Nintendo could increase the speed by much, but with a firmware update, they could run the processor at a slightly higher speed if they are comfortable with the stability and reliability at that speed.  Though, it doesn't sound like something Nintendo would typically do.  Nintendo would rather under power the system than have a RROD or YLOD issue on their hands.  They tend to always play it safe with hardware and for that reason pretty much always have the more reliable systems in the industry.

if this overclocking is true i believe it was the plan in the first place, with wii u capable of cooling even the higher clocked cpu/gpu. not something decided after the system release and risking rrod and ylod situations

talvez como você tenha dito isso é por causa da temperatura do Brasil. não vi relatos de aquecimento por aí, então deve aguentar um overclock de boa.

Yeap... I'm not saying the cooler can't handle a overclock to 1.6-1.8Ghz but 3.2Ghz? No way.

I saw related in Australia the Wii U get a lot hot too.

And now in English?

"Maybe like you said that's because the temperature in Brazil. I didn't see relates about overheating there [Brazil] so the system can stand a overclock."

Not literal translation lol

I agree... the Wii U cooling system can stand a overclock but not a 1.2 to 3.2Ghz one.

i was testing if he's really brazilian. I said the wii u getting hot might be because he's in brazil and i haven't seen reports of wii u overheating in other countrys. so wii u should handle this overclock.

While its possible to up the clock speeds through updates... that big of a CPU jump screams that its false. There's no way Nintendo would have purposefully underclocked it so much just to do this later. They don't even publish these types of tech info anymore and therefore would gain nothing from doing such a design. Plus if at 1.x they were hitting 32w of peak of 45w... then a 3.x would surely push beyond what it could do.

I'd wait for better sources.

Ah, ok. Makes sense now^^
