I have never played a 3D final fantasy game before (FFXIV doesn't count, it's an MMO). Is there a list of top favorites that I should check out? I've seen that Yuna girl a lot, I'm assuming this is one of the better games?

FFX was pretty decent. I liked the ending - it was open ended. Then FFX-2 came around and ruined everything. What a chore that game was.
Games can and should tell stories and share ideas through their mechanics. This is the intrinsic element of the medium and this is how experiences should be crafted in video games. No company does this as well as Nintendo and their echoes from the past.

Depends what type of game you like but my personal preferences:
FFX/ X-2
FFVIII
FFXII
FFIX
FFVII
All pretty easy to find.
