Forums - Gaming - Disc Rot, are your games still working?

Seriously? Shoot! Maybe I should keep my cartridge games and VHS movies. They have last for over 20 years, and some cartridge 30 years.

When you have time you might want to test some of your games and movies.  It's been random games so far for me between Sega CD, Gameboy Advance (Bit Rot) and Dreamcast.  I haven't had time to check everything though.  Hold your discs up to a bright light and if you see pin holes of light you've got trouble.  Cartridges may work but randomly lock up like my  Mario Kart Super Circuit.

Disc games do no matter much to me right now. They get scratched so easy. The only reason I like disc is because it saves space. I would not care if movies were still VHS, but the rewinding and bulkiness of them ....

As for games. Same thing. Disc get scratched or just get worn out. So annoying. Nothing last forever. Most of my cartridge games still work fine though. VHS as well.

Your words are true.  I'm just aggravated that this happened because I try to take care of things as best that I can.  My only solace is that it wasn't anything I did to ruin those games.

The only thing remotely similar to this that has happened to me is the internal battery "drying up" in some of my Pokemon game cartridges.

That makes me wish games still offered password files not tied to the battery.

Digital Distribution ftw!

Sad. Guess I won't be buying any more PS1 games....

Luckily many of those are digitally distributed now. right?

Not at all. There's a few of the popular titles, but about half of what I'm interested in.
