Sony has already confirmed that the PS4 will be launching at the end of 2013, at least in the US. In fact, Sony has previously revealed that it expects to ship 12-16 million PS4s by the end of the year.

But sources close to the supply chain suggests that this isn't the case and that Sony has yet to submit manufacturing plans.

Digitimes reports that sources close to the upstream suppliers have not yet received shipment instructions, which could result in delays to the mass production of the PS4.

This would mean that Sony would not be able to create enough PS4's to fulfill its expected shipments of 12-16 million.

However Sony originally claimed that it would start shipping the PS4 by June, with mass shipments scheduled for August.

This could even reach a high of 20 million units, suggesting that there could still be leeway with the manufacturing process if it hopes to produce 12-16 million PS4s by the end of the year.

Sony only does lofty goals...i mean 12-16 million shipments in 2 months time is a cakewalk

I thought this was a misunderstanding, and they were actually shipping a combined 12-16 million between PS3s and PS4s this year.

What? Really, 16M? That's a lot.

Eh even if it doesn't sell well they'll just delay the next shipment. Might as well get all the shipping out of the way lol

Stopped reading when the article thinks Sony is expecting 12-16mil Ps4's in less than 2 months. Look out Ps2... the Ps4 will ship a quarter of you end of 2014.

Yea its obviously a joke article or something to ignore completly.  Sony has given no official shipment numbers on the PS4 and the rumor of the 16 million included the PS3 (and it was a rumor at that)

The number is just clearly wrong, that's it

If Sony come close to that number though, it would probably be a record. It won't happen...

I'm ready to see 20 foot high stacks of PS4's in Best Buy and Gamestop. Not saying it won't sell well, just that 12-16 million is a crap ton.
