Forums - Gaming - [Quick Discussion] A change I would like to see in the next generation.

I would like to see more developers and publishers to market their games even if it's a new IP or not as popular as Mario or Call of Duty. That's what I like back when the PS3, Wii and 360 launch. A huge various of games being marketed for the new console besides your Call of Duty, or Mario or Battlefield etc.

For example, when the Wii and DS trailer was release, it was showing all sorts of games from big titles like Zelda and Metroid to games like Big Brain Academy and Tony Hawk.

“Don’t follow the hype, follow the games”

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

Why is COD and Mario always hated on by gamers that don't play that genre of game? I'm pretty sure that on worlwide sales FPS and platformer games don't come close to other genres like RPG for example. Just because they were the most successful genres this generation doesn't mean that they were overly produced.
In my opinion if Japanese devs varied the genres they produced more it would've given the market a different panorama. Because the western devs are willingly shackled to big corporations that want washed out gameplays for faster release and microtransaction infused games that allow them to grab quick buck.

As for my wish for next gen, I want less fat cats in the business and more creativity in all genres. People blame COD for not being creative but they forget that JRPG for example is a pool of copy paste market.

I would like that the price of a retail game didn't cross the 40$ mark. Even if it is an AAA.

i would like to see a customizable character in pokemon.... and i would like to work diagonally like in real life...

What tires me with videogame advertising is the lack of gameplay in trailers. The Bioshock infinite TV trailer was all CGI.

Also, Next generation i'd like to see more wrpg's outside of the fantasy genre.

I agree with the OP, and I think that console makers should help.

Look at the Wii: with the Nintendo channel they were able tro show videos of upcoming Nintendo games of both the Wii and the DS. Why don't they do that with 3rd parties? They could create a channel for the publishers (1 for all, not one for each) to give them the chance to show the trailers of their recent games or the one that are close to be launched, along with a brief info on the genre, age restrictions, etc of that game and update it every week to remove the old ones (+2weeks) and put new ones.

That way consumers would know what games are coming and if they may like them or not and will allow small publishers to promote their games directly to the end user.
