Market in general this gen contracts moderately, from 225 million handhelds to somewhere around 100-130 million, consoles around 150 million from 250 million.

That's moderate!?  The handhelds will be halved?  Aren't they already at 35m or about there 2 years in (1 for Vita)?   150m home consoles?  So what like...70m PS4, 50m Xbox, and 30m WiiU?  Those all seem way too low.  Unless one console just completely dominates (I don't think PS4 can reach that marketshare)  I don't see it contracting THAT much.  This gen isn't over sales wise and even 6th gen was 200m with one dominant console (well 150m when the 7th gen came).

I believe that Handhelds will be halved because in no way 3DS+Vita will reach DS final numbers, especially if Sony is all the more seemingly willing to let the Vita die in the West (ironic.) No Brain Age and Nintendogs this time and mobile really is shrinking this market

Console market contracting largely due to the semi-crash of Western AAA (where the console market is the largest), Wii casual audience leaving, more and more people moving to PC throughout the gen and Japan pretty much moving more and more to handheld gaming. The rise of digital will also make people gravitate towards less retail and more Steam for their PC.

Seems kinda harsh, but I'm really starting to think that we're in for Crash 2.0. Not as big as the 1st one of course.

I just hope the first party devs stay strong.  Between Nintendo and Sony's I do the vast majority of my gaming.

Consoles ain't what they used to be.  I miss the days when all they could do was play games.  Having said that i'm still prolly gonna buy a nextbox to be my cross platform system in addition to my wiiu.

I believe handhelds will see increased sales when compared to home consoles and I'm sure 3DS alone will pass 100 million. I can't see Sony, MS and Nintendo doing too well this gen on the home console market.

MSony will focus on the same amount of games and other entertainment. Its the way of the future. Go with it.

Nintendomination will occur regardless.

Only wierd thing will be when Apple and Google show their hands later this year and push more directly into console gaming.

Microsoft is (reportedly) doing some weird home entertainment, always-on, no used games thing.

Sony is doing some weird neon controllers, touch-pad, game streaming, share button thing.

Ouya is doing some weird indie, download only, underpowered, new console every year thing.

Valve is doing some weird modular home theater PC with biometric sensors thing.

Nintendo is doing some weird...okay I'll stop.

Do you think apple would go directly into the gaming business via console? I would usuaully say that that is bound to fail for most other companies, but apple is well apple.

Been saying so since last year.

Google/Apple will add significant gaming applications and controls to their ecosystems with the focus being on their TV connected devices. I think they'll (epecially apple) get the same if not close to same 3rd party support as home consoles. Even similar cost structure when the games are the same.

short answer: yes.

- Triple A third party titles slowly disappearing
- Recent lay offs from big gaming companies like EA.
- Indies slowly taking over.
- Digital sales in the PSN, Eshop, and Xbox Live are improven, soon to compete with Android and IOS
- 3DS is selling like crazy all over the world with hopes that the Vita pick up steam and start doing the same.

Yeah, this is going to be an interesting generation. I look forward to it.

Don’t follow the hype, follow the games

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

That would be rather impressive if they enter the market with all third parties on board and have their own exclusive studios too. They undoubtly have the funds neccessary for it. If they price it correctly, have tons of games, their ecosystem, and with the apple brand carrying them, they could really make a dent in the market. I wonder what that means for the other 3 though.
