Forums - Microsoft - Return of the Blades? Microsoft Shows Off Updated User Interface In Granted Patent

In a recently approved patent, Microsoft showed off its latest User Interface being prepared for the Xbox 8.

If the images are to be belived, it's the return of the Blades.

In a patent titled "User interface for viewing aggregated game, system and personal information" Microsoft detailed some possible interface changes to appear in the next generation of the Xbox console.

Notice the "Voice Greeting"  It would appear you can add a personal greeting to friends.

Notice the more Windows 8 'Metro' style to this scree.  This appears to be a settings screen.  Notale options, the ability to set the color scheme of the UI.  An interesting addition is the "Default Character Name".  It's not the gamertag.

Nothing new here from what I can tell.

The most interesting change to note here is you'll be able to see how long you've played a particular game, and how many times you've played it.  The achievements themselves seem to present more information.

See an additional image here & here.

A slight change to how friends look.  Again, the major change is Time Played and Sessions Played, both as a total and for specific titles.

Nothing significant here, though it would appear you get more information on how you come across other gamers.

Does anyone still has Quicktime installed? I wonder what's on thispage (you enter it by clicking images at the bottom of the patent page).

Can somebody post the pics pleas, FOCK QT!

I´m just curious about your Blade thing, wth are blades for you man? Didnt read the whole patent, to much text :P

Seriously,... what do you mean, cause it cant mean whaat i think blades are

Updated.

The images are a mix of old and new.  So, technically the first image is representative of the UI, not necessarily THE UI for the Xbox 8.  Some of the images do show changes that will likely exist in the updated UI.  The Achievement changes were also presented in a previous patent, so the look and feel of how they're presented and the infromation provided is likely to be there.

The most significant image is that of the settings page.  The UI customization/idividualization, as well as the Character Name thing.  I have no idea what the latter is for.  The former is obvious and long overdue.

Actually, you need a TIFF viewer.  If you want to see the images on a US Patent, download AlternaTIFF for IE or search for a TIFF viewer plug-in.

looks like what they had before they launched the 360, i remember how i wanted to get that "time played" stuff and then it wasn't integrated

€dit: ahh there are also all the old dates so isn't that just all the stuff from 2004 and 2005?

I know it's just a setup but for the 5th pic; how can you have that many games and only 7 achievement points!!! LOL

Looks exactly like the old Xbox360 dashboard^^

The part about the colours is for game defaults I would imagine, to save you time in games like Halo if you have clan colours or some such. The character name will be for rpg games that let you choose what your name is.

edit: The patent was filed in Dec 2004, before the 360 even launched. It's old and probably nothing to do with the next xbox.
