can you show me more than a couple of level headed regulars that said that?  actually can you show me any level headed regulars that said that?

I can show you loads of level headed regulars that said the 360 couldnt possible sell more than 35m or 40m and that it would be dropped within 5 years and that the PS3 would overtake it years ago.

I remember somebody linking an old thread on here talking about sales and i believe the majority of the people were claiming that ps3 could only hit like 40 million(or some low number like that) 

 

the same situation is going to happen with Gran Turismo 5 though. When it hits 10 million, people are going to act BRAND FUCKING NEW lol

 

they will be like "nobody ever said that! everybody already knew that it was going to reach 10 million"

 

whatever though..

LOL@ not realizing the difference between comparing it with and without the Wii. If you are to compare gaming in general no one would ignore the Wii. However, if the talk is about demographics the obviously the Wii would get ignored and there should be no reason to bring it up.

maybe you do but you know how many times i read in this forum "ohh who cares about wii, it's not the competition of ps360, it's not even a hd console" in the last years?

and sure, it's not the playstation fans, it's many playstation and xbox fans.

and it's fine if you think ps3 made a comeback vs. wii but surely most mean against 360 in those comaback threads and i still think it's not a comeback if the other one starts to fail in selling his products. it's not a basketball game, it's economy. you don't make a comeback if your sales don't increase in economy just because your competitor doesn't sell his products anymore. your shareholders want to see you increasing your sales and not decreasing sales of another company because that doesn't make your financials better.


Thats like saying if 2 boxers get in thr ring and 1 starts to get tired in the later rounds, he didnt lose the fight when he gets knocked out

 

its not the competitors fault if the other slows down.

Because it didnt have one it started off with basically every advantage you could have and then it got immediately hawked down and dethroned by the Wii during the generation.

It seems things were oddly out of touch with OP since 2009.

EDIT: Plus the yearly sales performances since 2009 when related to holiday spikes in the graph puts PS3 above. So it's precisely a comeback.

Some people seem to confuse past statements. PS3 back then was compared to PS2 because it sold far less than its predecessor, that´s why people said it underperformed. What did PS2 sell in 6-7 years? 130m-140m? Compare it to todays PS3 userbase (6-7 years = 75m) and you understand what the topic actually was about.

That PS3 would outsell X360 was a widespread consent early on, it is actually quite more surprising that even after 6 years PS3 didn´t achieve this yet.

Yes, the PS3 was set to overtake x360 and Wii, of course. Many thought that a headstart of 360 would be destroyed right away, especially as the PS3 offered a processor like a supercomputer ;) It is always the perspective: In the years before PS3 really closing up, alligned launches were argued -> PS3 better than 360. Now it's perhaps getting better in sales in total, now it's a comeback. People are always trying to spin facts so that your favored product looks better than the other or/and the other product looks worse than yours. 

I remember the thread which was dug out here where people discussed how many units 360 will sell - almost all were wrong ;)

Would like to add...

The people saying that it made a comeback never ever even conceded it was in trouble at the time. Now since a comeback is a positive word to use, it was in trouble a few years ago.

...The same people might I add that said it would beat the Xbox 360 in a year or two, years ago,

You guys should get into stock trading, you have some serious prediction skills!!!

What I can't understand though is how you got the numbers for PSABR so very wrong?

I guess every trader has their off day eh ;)
