Forums - Sony - How much money Sony really lost with the PS3

everybody knows sony lost a fuckton of money on PS3 during the early years but theres no need to mention it again as ps3 has been profitable for a while now. guess there isnt enough negativity about sony these days so people are starting to re-use the tired same old crap.

Aren't you forgetting accessory sales, software sales, and PS+ subscriptions?

You didn't factor in the PS4 and Vita R&D. There's no way to know how these factor in though so I get why you didn't included them. They're at least worth a mention in the OP though.

I think the comeback that anyone has ever been talking about was never about profits, except for opposing people.

I definitely agree that PS3 made a huge dent in profits when it launched but just to be devil's advocate because you are missing a lot of things.

When did PSP become profitable? It launched in Europe late 2005 and vita is taking 3 years to become profitable. Easily a billion or 2 in losses from the PSP nobody knows though.

Vita has been selling terribly for all of its life. PS3 profits could have been upward to 1 billion or 2 but vita losses minimized that.

Then in the last 4 years their was PS4 R&D. Another billion or two. So really your numbers are not accurate enough to prove anything.

Was the PSP sold at a loss? I was under the impression that it was profitable from day one.

Sony did make a comeback thats a fact. I think what op is forgetting the most obvious point. WE ARE CONSUMERS AND ARE NOT IN MANAGEMENT AT SONY. since were consumers sales numbers matter not profitibility.

Vita too, but without SW they are not I do not think. But I am just assuming I really do not know which is why I asked.

The ps3 was a failure. This is already known. Will probably sell more than the 360 which the sony fans claim is a victory, but they fail to realise that the ps3 cost sony billions and no profit, which makes it the ultimate failure.

Glass half empty perspective. On the other foot, to some, it must ache, just a tad, knowing that Sony's worst console will still outsell Microsoft's best.

Anyway, in regards to financials, no doubt the PS3 is a serious thorn in Sony's side. However, their current future looks far brighter than the pre-release days of the system, and with mistakes should come learning + improvment. So far, they're on the right track.

Its not what matter's than, It is what matter's Now. Sony Lost a ton of money and the TV part of the company is now on it's 9th straight year of Loss, Sony have been restructuring and cost cutting and streamlining the company. With the retail price budget limit they set for the PSVita and it look's to be the same with the PS4. Sony is well ahead to change the company from a Loss leader to a profit generating part of the Company. Could they fail at the task , yes they could, but the fact they are cutting loss'es now is a good sign they are on the right track.

I AM BOLO

100% lover "nothing else matter's" after that...

ps:

Proud psOne/2/3/p owner.  I survived Aplcalyps3 and all I got was this lousy Signature.

nope, included in the numbers I mentioned. They all belong to the respective divisions.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

didn't someone at neogaf kept a nice table from the big 3 with all the loses and profitability over the years
