• AMD revenue $1.09 billion, decreased 6 percent sequentially and 31 percent year-over-year
• Gross margin 41 percent
• Operating loss of $98 million, net loss of $146 million, loss per share of $0.19

AMDOOMED ?

AMD is in all next-gen consoles so I expect things to turn around for them.

It's not as negative as it seems...

Revenue in the three months ended in March fell 31%, year over year, to $1.09 billion, yielding a net loss of 13 cents per share. However analysts had been expecting $1.05 billion and a 17-cent loss.

Also Gross margin in the quarter was 41%, on a non-GAAP basis, up from 39% in Q4 but down from 46% a year earlier.

why is AMD having so much trouble lately?

Nvidia.

Actually, there is some talk that the reason AMD is in PS4 instead of NVida is because console margins are absolutely terrible.  So Nvida walked.

From 2004 to 2011... NVDIA made a grand whopping total of 500 Million in royalties.

Not really.

Amd has trouble becuase they don't have a mobile strategy and are stuck fighting for scraps in a shrinking market (desktop).

i guess any profit margins are good enough for AMD in their current situation though. also with all 3 home consoles they might just make some good money 

- Stuck on 28nm while Intel is going to 14nm

- Less than 1/10 the R&D spending of Intel

- 40% IPC deficit to make up

Basically they don't have the cash to compete in desktop/server CPUs any more, and they are too late to move into the mobile/low power space.
