Forums - Gaming - Kojima: “Killzone Looks Very Traditional

Its an FPS! Its always been the same game since Wolfenstein and Doom first came out. They just added more polygons and some storytelling to it.

Its exactly why i dont like the genre. You played one, you played them all (gameplay wise, in general).

logic of Nintendo Haters (Not meaning anybody here. Didn't read all the comments.)

"Uhh. Nintendo rehashes their games!LOL." person with brain - "No, they bring new gameplay twists and mechanics for every entry of a specific series"

Sony announcing Killzone 4 with great graphics and genericFPS gameplay that exists since forever, Nintendo Hater - "wow, nice! GOTY, die Nintendo, die!"

sorry for being off topic. But Kojima is absolutely right about KZ 4

You got to admit though , Nintendo DOES rehash their games a lot.

rehash means the same game over and over again with same/prettier graphics, so no.

What is NSMB --- >  NSMBWii -----> NSMB U then ?

I agree with Kojima, but I'm more than willing to cut the Killzone some slack since it's a launch game. And launch games usually aren't the best indicator of what to expect from a console.

oh, the good old nsmb argument.....pls give me another nintendo franchise where every game in the series plays the same. Right.

I am tired of these FPS CoD like, I want a Quake 5 based on the first quake.

Super Smash Bros.

Donkey Kong.

Kirby.

Animal Crossing.

Fire Emblem

Yoshi's series.

Mario Kart

Mario Party

Pokemon

Star Fox

Pikmin

Its not a bad thing to make more of the same, I actually enjoy all the games I listed, including NSMB , and hated when they changed it like Galaxy for example.

Painkiller, a new (Good) rip off from the guys who brought you the original Quake Rip off (unreal tournament)

I swear everything  Epic/ People can fly does is ripping off games by ID software, they're like a high budget version of Gameloft

I like how he chose to use the term traditional when discussing the feel of the next Killzone. He knows his way around FPS's apparently, and that is a comforting though.

Its exactly why i dont like the genre. You played one, you played them all (gameplay wise, in general).

You think you've played Bioshock: Infinite or Half-Life 2 if you played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3? That's just like saying that you've played all platformers if you've played one of them. Except in platformers, there's usually not a big emphasis on story (and thus less reason to play through it "all over again") so the saying would be even more relevant here.

Notice how i mentioned gameplay wise in general. There are some that have their own twists. This is the case with Bioshock, but not really with Half-life.

As far as platformers, yes its the same in the same set of rules (in general). Say for example super mario world and new super mario brothers play literally the same. Say that Highlander indie game of recent memory played alot like prince of persia aswell. It depends on wether the game adopts a different set of moves. I would say FPS are worse than platformers though, as most of them really are only "get a gun and shoot in first person (taking into account these weapons usually do the same, so lets not include portal in there)".

Half-Life 2 is really unique. If you could tell me about identical FPS games I'd really appreciate it, because HL2 is one of my favourite FPS games.

Bold: That's why they're called FPS o.O

They have different guns though, and are set in different times with different settings etc. Some have vehicles, others don't. Some have powers along with guns etc. I really don't see why FPS games are any worse than other genres in this regard. You might not like the genre, but that doesn't mean they're all the same.

Its difficult to explain, but to me to play an FPS is boring cause it feels like i've played that before. Lets see i can tell you that when i play return to castle wolfenstein, or Half-life, or Quake, Rage, CoD, Halo or unreal tournament, etc. They all feel like the same game gameplay wise. I'm not doing anything different. Yes, the setting can change, maybe they can thrown in a couple of puzzles and they can change the story but it still feels like playing the same thing.

I guess 3rd person shooters are the same, but since you actually see your character and he looks and moves differently it doesnt feel exactly the same. I guess racing games fall on that deathtrap aswell. Its another genre i feel tires me out cause im playing the same game over and over. Though, again, at least the vehicles change. FPS is the only genre where everything is a constant. RPG, Action and the adventure genres are the ones that vary the most.
