Forums - Gaming - Is "casual gamer" merely short-hand for "n00b"?

So I was watching a review of Injustice and the reviewer talked about how the game has accessibility for casual gamers.  I am then wondering here about this.  I had been under the presumption that the industry was doing a whole entire niche of casual games, which were flash based, more relaxed, smaller budgets, and games you can just pick up and have fun with.  Casual gamers then, would be individuals who like such games.  But, why would the individual, no matter how accessible Injustice is, get into Injustice?  Just because something is made accessible, does it mean someone is going to want to play it?

So, I am curious, if "casual gamer" in the mind of more hard core gamers mainly seen as "n00b", rather than meaning someone who is more of a fan of flash-type puzzle games?  And if the industry is having confusion here, could it then be that a dumbing down of a title, was seen as a magic solution to get millions in sales, forgetting that something might not appeal to anyone, no matter how accessible it is?

Since casual gamer takes longer to type, I'd think noob would be shorthand for casual gamer.

Maybe the refer to gamers that casually play that game, not meaning they're casual gamers.

Me for example, I'm not a casual gamer at all. I play video games every day. But I've never spend an insame amount of hours to master a game. I don't like fighting games specially, mostly because of that. I pick them up, play some fights, knowing that I suck at it. I see that it would take several hours just to play decently with one (!) character, and this fact pulls me back. That's why I never buy fighting games.

What fighting games are trying to do is be fun even if you're a n00b (or to players that only casually will be playing the game). I think that's the type of players the mean when they say "casual" players.
