That's the thing, who gets to decide whether it's a clone or not?

Some believe that Tomb Raider is an Uncharted clone. I don't but again who am I to decide.

I do think that All Stars is a lot more similar to Smash than Tomb Raider is to Uncharted, but I feel that it's mostly because I can't think of any other game that plays like Smash. All Stars is punished because it's the first big game that does the same genre.

I'm pretty sure that the second shooter (for example) ever made was accused of being a clone of the first one.

I get what you're saying. But Playstation All-Stars was just so blatant.

Weren't you the one defending Tomb Raider being taken from Uncharted?

I don't see the problem with it being similar to Smash. The formula works, why not make one for Playstation.

Uncharted was inspired by Tomb Raider. The new Tomb Raider was inspired by Uncharted.

Playstation All Stars was a much more blatant clone that really just made question their integrity. I feel people looking for a Sony IP fighter would have preferred something more original.

So you want it to be more original, ok. What do you think about doing a 3D brawler similar to GOW?

Sure, why not!? But make it feel more like Powerstone 2 and let Capcom develop it.

Hahaha and put in the Powerstone characters too? But would that work with all the guns in all stars?

Sure, keep the guns, bombs, skateboards... etc. Most importantly, keep the Power Stones in it!

I dunno what I want Sony to do anymore... I just want Powerstone 3.

I mean how would a shooting mechanic work in a game like powerstone? The right stick could be used but then the game isn't even a fighter anymore.

THe game would have to under go alot of changes to be more playable for me. I wouldn't know where to start but a GoW type multiplayer would be beneficial. I thought it would be fun to play it so I got it and it wasn't what I expected. I saw somebody in this discussion mention Smash and this game so here is my take.

I'm sorry Smash Bros. is much more complex, better and more recognizable IPs, and it is just overall more competitive and fun. I played this game and all I thought was "tried to be Smash Bros. but failed miserably." The games' release followed job loss guys... nobody bought the game. If it is different and presentable enough to go up against Smash Bros. then the public would say so but if the first thing that comes to mind is Smash then yes it is a reverse engineered clone.

The special system is dumb and I don't think people want to see Fat Princess and Sly Cooper fight over Mario Vs. Sonic / Link vs. Ganondorf/ Peach Vs. Zelda. Smash Bros. worked because you had these extremely iconic gaming characters that had worlds that seamlessly collided. It is pure fun.

Take that second half to a thread that cares. This is about if All Stars should have had a different combat style, not about a Nintendo fan thinking smash is amazing and All Stars sucks.

Well somebody else on the topic compared the two so ummmm... thought I would. Smash Bros. is amazing I don't think. The sales speak for themselves. The game just tries to hard to be a genre it didn't create. That's all I'll say.

Lol. This might be the worst and most common argument on the internet. You think sales equal quality? Give a break. If that's the case, Kristin Stewart needs to get them oscars that the academy forgot to give her. Michael Bay too. Also, COD are some of the best games ever made and most jrpgs suck. Yup, flawless logic. "The sales speak for themselves".

Why are we comparing apples to steak here?(Two different groups.) Smash Bros. and PSASBR are fighting games. JRPGS and Fighters, Einstein, aren't the same thing. Gosh, you'd think I could have an opinion on this site. I don't like CoD, they are all the same thing, that's what I think. I like games that make you think and not feel like some mindless idiot on the couch, scarfing down doritos and mountain dew, with underpants he hasn't washed in years. I don't care what you guys think, that's the thing. You can think JRPGS are stupid and I can respect that. You don't like them. What I don't like is people trying to make me like something.

BTW: I've never heard anybody question the quality of Smash Bros... ever. I can't help but to think that you haven't played it. I've played both and have given my honest opinion on both thank you.

Wait a sec here.  All-Stars is actually gun heavy?  So it isn't a rip off of Smash Bros, but a rip off of the 360 game Small Arms?

I just don't know HOW you could make it work. The shooters like Killzone and Uncharted would barely be able to hit something moving quickly and combo oriented, like Kratos or Ratchet, and some characters just would not make sense altogether(3d Parrapa, Sly, Spyro?)It would be completely unbalanced. The only style I see working would be a League OF Legends style. It would be completely balanced in terms of gameplay.

As for being a "copy". No one claims that Battlefield copies CODS gameplay. No one criticizes Tekken, Virtual Fighter, Street Fighter, and Mortal Kombat for being alike and that God Of War and Bayonneta copied DMC's style. No one criticizes Little Big Planet for copying Mario, and no one criticizes Need For Speed for being a Motorports, Grand Turismo, and Forza clone. These are GENRES. Smash Brothers is it's own genre. Claiming that anything that feels like it is a rip-off that shouldn't have been made is outright stupidity and hypocrisy.

Thanks for calling me Einstein. This clearly made your argument even stronger. FYI, I have played and still own both games.

Are you serious? You think there is a sinlge game ever made that every simple person likes? You want people to respect your opinion and then you say I haven't played the game because I didn't like it? You, sir, are funny.

Your argument was that sales speak for themselves. Well they don't, hence the examples I provided. If you wanna compare apples with apples, then you must consider Final Fantasy 13 the best JRPG of this generation and Xenoblade absolutely terrible. Same with Nino Kuni (why would it sell bad in Japan? Quality of course). The thing is, sales DO NOT speak for themselves.
