Just been checking what they need to ship in Gmaing to reach their own target.

The much reduced target of 7m for handhelds needs a shipment of just 1.3m.   (This quarter last year they shipped 0.9m)
Be a bit of a disaster and very embarrassing if they don't hit this given that the original target was reduced in August from 16m to 12m then later to 10m and then again to 7m.

The target for home consoles needs them to ship 2.9m PS3 & PS2 to hit the 16m combined target.  (This qtr last year they shipped 2.5m)

Sony had a price cut with great games that boosted the sales in Japan... there are even shortages in the last weeks.... so I believe this "depressing" target will be match. Now about the consoles Sony never changed the 16m plan... so I guess they are on track too... even so 15.5m or more is close to match.

The fact they had shortages would more likely mean they didn't meet the shipment target though.  You would think they would ship more in anticipation of the demand but they didnt?

Sales of the Vita and PSP are less than 1m for the 3 months, so shipping 1.3m could be hard.  SURELY they cant miss such a terrible low target?

Shortages means demand over shipment... so Sony didn't expect to have to ship more than they predicted... so Japan are helping to match the low target.

I know what shortages mean, I also know that only 1m PSP plus VITA have been sold globally in the last 3 months.    Only 300k Vita sold in Japan for the last 3 months and they had supply problem?  Dont you find that odd?  Especially from a company that can manage to supply 4m Xperia in 40 days?  I dont buy it.

Odd? No. Vita have low sales in Japan for almost one year... in the holidays the sales not goes up... so Sony shipped less for the first quarter but they were surprised by the high sales.

And remember that the shipment are per region... a lot of units on shelves in Europe or US doesn't means that Japan can't have shortages.

In any case the shortages in Japan are official (Sony confirmed) and the all the big retails in Japan have almost all colors/models sold out since last week... Sony is trying to meet the demand for the Obon.

So they shipped less knowing they were going to reduce the price.  Isn't that rather stupid?

Anyhow, what you have just said just emphasise even more why 12.3m will be hard fro them to achieve for the quarter.

BTW.  Sony confirmation doesnt make it official. lol. Fact is you can buy a vita easily in Japan right now.   Recall the Jack Tretton $1,200 reward???

12.3m lol

Where do you can buy Vita easily now?

Only the Black 3G is available in stores and nobody want that... all the others models are sold out in big retails... the relate of shortages were for Yodobashi, Joshin, Big Camera, Sony Store and Amazon.jp for now.

Microsoft shipped 1.3 million 360... 7% down form the last year... that means the sales on console front is too bad like VGC shows.

Last year Sony shipped 1.9m PS3... so I expect at least 1.6 million from Sony this time.

Will be combined anyways. But I really hope they tell us the split shipments since it is the end of the FY. Investors should be able to know these things!

I think Sony will show when PS3 reach the next milestone... 80 million.
