J_Allard said: For all the good the no online requirement and used games rumors do, this whole stackable console megazord type BC stuff just seems stupid. Reeks of old Sega mistakes. But, I guess if you can sell your 360 for a reasonable price, and this mini-360 is like $100 or less, it wouldn't be too bad in order to get BC. XBLA is a huge card in MS's favor. The ability to bring all your games over and still have all the previously released games available on the new console is a huge plus. I wonder if they will still put other paid services behind the XBLG pay wall. I am not familiar with AppleTV or Roku and such. Do you have to pay them a fee AND pay for the apps you use on the devices? |
If this rumor is true I don't think it's stupid I think it's genious. Backwards compatibility only matters to the few who trade in their old console for a new one but want to keep playing their old games. I love backwards compatability, but in reality it isn't that important to the big picture. So, by spliting the backwards compatability onto a secondary device they are letting consumers decide if they want it or not. But that's not whats genious about the XboxMini. It's a trojan horse of a video game console. Like a Roku box people will buy it to stream Netflix and Hulu and all the rest, but it also is a portal to Games on Demand and XBL Arcade games. Families who want a cheap streaming box will suddenly have a gaming machine and when their kids want the latest next gen games they will ask for the Nextbox because it will work with the XboxMini which will most certainly work with Surface. Gamers who just want to play the latest games and don't care about Multimedia will probably just buy a Nextbox for Halo 5. They have the option of holding onto their 360 for the old stuff or trading it in for a XboxMini which would be kind of like an upgrade.
If the rumors are to be believed.
This is not the 32X all over again. It's something entirely new.
I just want to know what the two machines will cost. Together they better not go over $450 or it will be a hard sell. If it's $299 for a Nextbox and $149 for an XboxMini I can see both doing well seperately and together. MS just needs to find the right price and people will be there.
Again, if the rumors turn out to be true.
