Forums - Microsoft - UPDATE! vgleaks: Microsoft Xbox Roadmap (2013) - possible bc, online not required, used games allowed

It sounds very confusing and that they dont know what to do. Atempting to sell 2 units? Selling one is already difficult enough. I also seriously doubt they wont try to shove Kinect down out throats.

As a guy in advertising its pretty clear for me.. 1 device aimed at a core market of ~200 million console gamers.. the other device aimed at lets say 1 billion plus non gamers.. this current gen has shown that the other none gamers market don't want really want a gameconsole with multimedia abilities.. Microsoft is attempting to get that market by giving them a multimedia device with gaming abilities... smart strategy to introduce people to their eco system.. it what makes Apple so succesfull.. people aren't hooked on the devices but to their itunes/appstore.. once you buy from there you don't have the need to switch to someone else's online service..

So positive rumors are realistic and negative aren't? Cool. But definitely a good NEWS for Adam Orth finally he can go and live somewhere else!

Xbox mini as a set top box for people who want to stream stuff and play some games on the side and the Next box as a more gaming orientated platform.

Set top boxes need memory.. Lot's of memory. Every set top box in shops here has at least a 500G harddrive and/or a writeable medium.
So basically MS is going to build something that was talked here 1-2 years ago. It was a thread about Sony patenting something along the line of "A hw device that attaches to a console and adds sw compatibility". What makes people think that MS suddenly invented the wheel? I'm pretty sure Sony could build such an addon for the PS4 that contains a PS3 SoC, it they wanted...

Err it won't need a HDD to function as one. Plus, who's to say you can't plug in an external HDD. Also, adding more memory to the Mini will not be much of a problem since GDDR3 RAM is probably quite cheap now.

Does anyone remember the 56-pages long leak from last year which also was quite dated? IIRC even in this document they were talking about two different versions of new xboxes - seems MS had this strategy long before the first rumors appeared. I think to MS everything works as they planned since a long time.

That was fake.

According to whom? I never heard about it being fake. And everything since then keeps adding more and more credibility to it.

Why do people keep saying this? Not a single thing in the document has come true.

Of course it hasn't, because it was an old 2010 document of potential plans that have been greatly revised since then!

Nothing in that document is going to come true exactly as it was described in that document, but many of the things it talked about will come true eventually in many updated forms.

I see you did not post any supporting evidence for your claim that the document was fake. Is that simply your personal belief or did you find proof online somewhere that people found the document to be a fake?

EDIT: I see you were too hasty in saying that nothing from that document has come true. Thanks for the info JayWood. I love that thread btw, can't believe I forgot about it, or maybe I didn't realize that was from the 56-page document.

It perfectly predicted 2011 and early 2012 since it was "leaked" in 2012. However since then it has incorrectly predicted everything. No 361, no haptic controller, no XTV, no new live tiers, and many things that look to be wrong for 2013. I don't have a source, just logic.

I wasn't aware that 2013 was over with?  Yeah that was logical.

Oh, and walufsnir, I am also the only person in the rumors threads who were saying the "no used games" and "always online" were completely untrue, and likely spread by MS itself. Just go look at those threads. I'm literally the only person saying they're fake, and probably just marketing that draws attention away from ps4 talk, and sets the bar low for MS to come out with a console that is unhindered by the rumors and wows everyone.
I called that too.

Lol i doubt it but i guess it would be smart

I was actually expecting this to happen regardless though

fuck this Whole upcoming monitored/no privacy era

Aint nobody got time for that!

people should enjoy it now while we still have it

Most of what you just said is on the roadmap for 2013 and could easily still happen! And again, it was a document from 2010 and things change ALL the time in the gaming business. Yet even then, it seems to be holding up quite well for all these new rumors.

Must be nice to live in a world where you can state your opinion as fact.

The negative rumors don't make a whole lot of sense. I can't really see the strategy behind forcing always online and blocking used games. What does MS have to gain from doing those things especially if their competitor isn't. Those rumors would have been more believable if Sony was also doing it.

Don't get me wrong MS has been known to do dumb things so those negative rumors may turn out to be true, but as of right now the positive rumors sound like they make more business sense.

I believe the always online virus will show its ugly, unwanted head again with the next batch of consoles

It's coming for sure and it's called Gaikai.. like it or not but it is the ultimate always online always connected DRM for gaming..

Thanks.  I never got to keep updating that thread since Microsoft hasn't confirmed anything yet.   It'll be interesting if many holds up.

For all the good the no online requirement and used games rumors do, this whole stackable console megazord type BC stuff just seems stupid. Reeks of old Sega mistakes.

But, I guess if you can sell your 360 for a reasonable price, and this mini-360 is like $100 or less, it wouldn't be too bad in order to get BC. XBLA is a huge card in MS's favor. The ability to bring all your games over and still have all the previously released games available on the new console is a huge plus.

I wonder if they will still put other paid services behind the XBLG pay wall. I am not familiar with AppleTV or Roku and such. Do you have to pay them a fee AND pay for the apps you use on the devices?
