Forums - Microsoft - Halo film: District 9 director interested if given full control

VG247

Halo may be turned into a movie yet, as acclaimed District 9 director Neill Blomkamp has expressed interest in helming the project, but only if he is given total creative control.

Speaking with IGN, Blomkamp said, “I still really love the world and the universe and the mythology of Halo. If I was given control, I would really like to do that film.

“But that’s the problem. When something pre-exists, there’s this idea of my own interpretation versus 150 other people involved with the film’s interpretation of the same intellectual property,” he added. “Then the entire filmgoing audience has their interpretation. You can really live up to or fail in their eyes. That part isn’t appealing to me, but the original pieces are appealing.”

Thanks Gamespot.

I'd rather have it be a TV show with a HBO/AMC level of quality.  If Microsoft is serious about bringing original movie/tv content to the system this would be a good start.

Yeah, I'm with Legend on this one. Before seeing FUD, I would have said yes movie, yes Blomkamp (I still think he would be good for a movie) but now I realize that the Halo Universe is way too big with too many moving parts to be confined to 2-3 hr. movie. I mean I know it can be done and has been done (with other franchises) but my preference now is HBO production quality trickled to me over the course of years. Imagine a 3 hr. Game of Thrones Movie vs. what we have now. I'll take the series.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

I don't want him doing that. Even with creative control. (I really like him).

His shorts and District 9 were awesome. I don't want a sequal to district 9 either. The ambiguity was a large part of what made it great.

NO!

He needs to make a sequel to District 9....District 10 please...or a prequel like they mentioned before although I wouldnt mind seeing a Halo movie...providing it goes on based on the actual game story and not a spinoff or a sequel tie in to the games ;x.

Definitely! I want to see what happens to Wikus!

Neill is a talented guy. That's why Sony scooped him up lol.

Halo movie would be very interesting, given Neill's vision. The movie could be scrapped or shelved for eternity considering the ineptitude that microsoft exhibited when trying to shop the project. Microsoft learned the hard way. Don't ever tell Hollywood how to do it's job, especially when you're irrelevant in that business. Bungie was caught in the crossfire too.

Halo movie will probably never get made. Hollywood politics.

This. Maybe that's what their Los Angelos studio is for?

Although TBH I doubt we'll ever seen anything regarding a Halo film or TV show.
