If they are doing this it is simply because it draws out the unveiling process, thus keeping the new console in the limelight and then while hype is still going strong they can dedicate their entire E3 conference to showing off games without the hardware taking up any of their time.

Im sure Sony doing their reveal before E3 was going to happen regardless. I think its more to please those who wanted to see the console itself.

Maybe Sony does feel pressure from MS, but your right that it isn't from this specifically.

I don't necessarily think either feels incredible pressure from the other.

From the rumors I have seen (Yes, I understand they are just rumors), it seems MS might be going in a totally different direction with the 720 and I personally like that idea. I don't pay for cable at all and wouldn't mind paying for a 720 if it will double as a TV box, of course if this is really the direction they are going.

I want the E3 of yore, when most things were announced at the show, and all the publishers didn't spoil 90% of their surprises before the actual press conferences began.

Give me back 2000-2006!

Every year we keep getting pre-E3 game unveilings months ahead of E3. ACIV was announced in February, for God's sake! It's just all way too early. It's getting earlier and earlier. Especially now with the Spike VGA's, we're getting earlier and earlier announcements. I'd much rather get it all at once, so that the press conferences are actually exciting again. E3 2012 had some of the worst press shows from the Big 3 that I've ever seen.
