This is about taking 1st place in a market and therefore "Winning" that market.

You want congrats for being second?  When they have the biggest install base in a region I will be the first to congratulate them.  I predicted they would achieve this long before any sony fan here.  I'm consistent.

It's an exceptionally convenient stance to take that being first in any given region is worthy of praise while being second overall is not, but you're correct that you've been consistent with it.

But it is the truth,  Being first mean something, being second I don't know...  They would not say we are the second best.. because that sound silly or we did better than X because that would sound arrogant..

Anyway it is not that big of deal,  software sales the X360 will surpass the DS or Wii anytime?

And that's the way you think about it, while I think where things rank up when the whole world is included is just as important as getting first in a single country.  Of course, that can be thought of as a very convenient stance as well, and I do find it striking how clear the line is between people on either side of this question and general feelings on the two platforms.

Well yeah,  I already said it is not that big of deal, mostly because it is the UK.  USA is something different though, being first in the biggest entertainment producer/market means something. Being third, fourth or second doesn't mean much in retrospect.

In the end people will know Wii was first and second and third place people will forget..

They also wouldn't say "we beat our competition in UK only" because that is extremely weak and really unimportant.

I know, but will about USA though.

lol its like celebrating a race where the winner has already crossed their finish line and the competition still running.. and eventually passes the resting wii.. coz its next racer wiiu is already running the next race lol

Another way to see it.. think of it as a relay race .. the wii is done and have already passed on the baton to wiiU.

Enjoy ms fans!.. but yeh nobody cares about the wii amymore

So the Wii U can still win 8th-gen! All Nintendo have to do is release the successor a couple of days after the PS4 and 720 are out. We can can all laugh at silly Microsoft and Sony, fighting a battle Nintendo has already won.

But anyway, good for 360 and Microsoft.

uhm no clearly you dont understand.. its a new race dropping out early means forfeiting ...  " crossed their finish line "  Typically Nintendo's finish line is 5-6 years.. they dont try anymore after that..

If they released a new console after the wiiU.. within the first 2 years.. then clearly they forfeit the race..  and lose!

hard logic to follow for you?

Nah, they just need to pick a new race then. The Wii won the 800m while the PS360 are still running the Marathon. For the Wii U they can switch to the 200m and cross the finish line a day after the PS4 and 720 start the next race! Nintendo wins again!

There is no finish line in a sales race. This argument is born of bunk logic. Remove your goggles and think for a moment.

It's akin to an endurance competition - when all runners have stopped running as far as they can, we measure to see who ran the farthest.

"bunk logic" .. haha just enjoy the moment man! and just ignore the bunk logic.. =)

So it finally happened, the Wii lost its position of first place in a market.

The 360 overtook the Wii this week in the UK to become the biggest selling home console of the current generation here.

Which one will fall next and when?  Looks like USA to me, again to the 360, and relatively soon.

Congrats to MS too for its first ever 1st place.

UK

360: 8,723,219

Wii: 8,717,650

360 arrived one year before Wii in UK.

So... what´s the point ? We all knew that it would happen anytime.

Both systems have/had sucessfull runs in the British market and that´s what really matters. Its manufacturers must be happy with the results

Competition is good for consumers. As long as buyers are also satisfied, and the product is profitable, it really doesn´t mean much if one machine sells slightly better than the other. A product don´t need to be #1 to be profitable.

I wonder why people always try to turn everything in these forums into fanbase battles.

Sorry facts not allowed here.. it does not matter if 360 had a year headstart in UK .. what matters is it finally beat the wii.. yay party!

You think they don't care? This was their first and only chance for a while at being first in the UK. They didn't make it. just because Nintendo stopped running doesn't mean the race is over

lol but they really dont.. if they did they still be supporting it by making games for it..  they made a ton of money from it already which is paying for their new HQ.. and they cant support more than 2 system at a time.

you gotto remember they were pretty much the only ones making games for it.. lol no proper third party support.. but they cant do that forever.. they need to transfer the work to the wiiU/3DS now .

I thought Wii was old news? 360 had a year headstart, that is one reason for it being ahead now. However, that doesn't change the fact that Nintendo lost the lead that they took from MS in the early days of the gen.

It is old news..

and yeh it doesnt change the fact Nintendo lost the lead either.. Ive already given my congrats to MS for taking the lead back.. only because wii stopped running. haha ok moving on.
