For me, the next gen doesn't really start until ALL the next gen consoles are out. Really don't care what standard operating procedure is on that.

Seventh-gen will ALWAYS be next-gen. Eighth-gen will forever be next-next-gen, and so on. PS3 can't not be next-gen, ever.

Well since 2 of the 3 companies have yet to release a product I'd still call gen 8 the next gen. Also when most people are still playing on PS360 and more on Wii than WiiU I'm still calling 7th gen current. Not until a couple years in will I consider 8th gen current.

Then 8th gen started when the 3DS launched. We is weird transitional phase.

People called PS3/360/Wii "Next Gen" for a ridiculously long time, even after they were released.

If we are still using the term this time next year, then I'll notice, otherwise this isn't too bad.

We are in the current gen with the 3DS, PS Vita and Wii U. PS4 and 720 are next-gen because they still haven't released. When they are, they will be current-gen alongside with the Wii U, 3DS and Vita. Anyway, PS3/360/Wii/DS/PSP are already last-gen since the 3DS released and started the new current generation.

Who calls this gen "next gen"? Next refers to the future and we are in the present. I can understand refering to consoles as "next gen" while in a transitional period when both old and new are still on the market, but this gen is too old to call "next gen".

Here's so help for anyone still confused:

Past - Last Gen - Xbox, PS2, Dreamcast, Gamecube
Present - Current Gen - Xbox 360, PS3, Wii
Future - Next Gen - Nextbox, PS4, Wii U

Next year will shift everything over like this:

Past - Last Gen - Xbox 360, PS3, Wii
Present - Current Gen - Nextbox, PS4, Wii U
Future - Next Gen - ???

Right now we are in a transitional period so some people will consider the Wii U "Next Gen" and PS360 "Current Gen" while others will consider Wii U "Current Gen" and PS360 "Last Gen".
