Forums - Gaming - Getting the disc out of the box without snapping it voted scariest gaming moment this gen

As the current generation of consoles draws to a close, gamers have voted getting the disc out the box without snapping it the single most terrifying moment of the last 7 years.

Despite tough competition from well-known horror franchises including Resident Evil, Dead Space and Silent Hill, the act of actually removing a modern video game from the clutches of its plastic case has nevertheless been deemed infinitely more scary than anything likely to be contained on the disc itself.

“My first few moments with Resident Evil 6 were terrifying and really recaptured the sense of dread that I’d loved about the original games,” said 22-year-old Jeff Harris who participated in the IGN survey.

“I’d managed to get the cellophane wrap off without too much trouble, but no matter how hard I tried I just couldn’t get the game to pop out. I was pressing down hard on that stupid little button in the middle, and I’d managed to work my nails underneath the CD to try and pull on it at the same time, but it just wouldn’t budge. I was really freaking out because I could see the disc bending and I’m thinking it’s going to snap if I’m not careful, but I knew my only option was to keep on trying.

“I’ll be honest, the rest of the game was pretty tame in comparison to those initial moments.”

Notable runners up in the survey included racking up an epic kill streak in CoD only to realise you urgently need poo, and suddenly doubting that you remembered to “save and quit” when you last played Halo.

These people most have some useless hands if they think they will snap there disc when getting it from the case, it's not hard to get a disc from a case!

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

Its not really a problem with games but Ive gotten some movies that were impossible to get out of the case...

it's funny because it's true.

I never had any problem pulling out 360 games from their case. But i always had a problem getting out Gamecube discs ;o

As a person who likes to maintain in well quality the boxes and discs (I hate buying used games and then find out the disc full with dirt and scratches -_- or the box totally broken, that's pretty horrible), yes. I would say I have extremely care whenever I get a disc out of the case. It would scare me to death hearing it break.

You never had a Gamecube did you?

BY FAR THE EASIEST DISC TO POP OUT EVER:

That centre piece halves  in size, and there are FOUR places at the edge you can pull the disc on.

WHY would you say something so wrong?

never had that problem

I never tried that one.

I got this one and It was challenging for me at least.

The centre piece is not pressable and it locked the disc pretty hard, so you had to pull the disc by the edges.

Really...? People fear that they didn't save the last checkpoint? No level in any of the X360 Halos is longer than ~30 minutes if you don't die regularly. Replaying a level from start shouldn't be a struggle at all. Especially since you should know the way the second time around and be able to quickly catch up.

OT: I'd say playing through Hardcore mode on Dead Space 2 was the scariest gaming related moment this generation. Not because the game was scary, but because the Xbox could freeze at any time while you were only able to save your progress at three selected points throughout the game. At one point I even completed over half the game with all three save files intact only to find the Xbox freezing. Needless to say the following attempts to complete this mode were terrifying.
