I'm from Virginia. Interracial marriage wasn't legal until 1970. A couple that moved from DC had to go to the Supreme Court to get Virginia to recognize their marriage. Some people clearly need learn about the history of racism in America.

This day and age, some degrees of being offended are seen as more proper than others. What annoyed me a bit in regards to the being offended was that people who knew nothing of the ending to Infinite, happened to go off and judged those who knew much more about the game than they did. |
Which they shouldnt be. I definitely agree with you that people complaining and saying these Christians destroyed the ending...have no idea what they are talking about (and a good bit of people starting bitching before they even got the PLAY THE DAMN GAME!)
Either way, game is awesome and the ending felt straight up RUSHED and really like a big ass cop out to me. To easy to explain something that way.

I think it was pretty heavy-handed, but I wouldn't call it unnecessary. I would call the violence level unnecessary.

Well if you are a gamer into gameplay, then that could make sense. But do you get immersed into worlds, or just play them for the play mechanics being interesting?

We have no idea how the actual ending was prior. I was just expressing that I could see how some might take offense, and also was dismayed that individuals on the internet were all irate over people who were actually close to the project than them ended up expressing concerns, and the concerns were honored. It was all, as I saw it, really a sign of intolerance. I am not going to speak against people being wrong for having intolerance though, but can speak to how such intolerance is reflected, and degress of inconsistency one might have.
In regards to the storytelling side, I would have to know the story and so on. I do take issues with some themes and won't touch them pretty much (like Naughty Bear reall was off to me), and some game mechanics don't resonate with me either. From a Christian perspective, on a personal level, I do wonder about bigger picture things with my life and prioritizing. For me, I am doing game design now, because I don't see much else to do with my time, as working on a book with 100 of my games seems to be something solid. Is there something more suited for Christ that I could be doing? I would certainly like to hear. Heck, I would also like to hear on the career front what is a better thing to do. Thus far, I don't get any answers.
On the spending of time, I am reminded of something Paul wrote: "Redeem the hours, for the times are evil", so I do see reasons to mindfully think about what is going on.

You could also do a bit of search on the Internet and follow the back story and so on. I have a basic feel for the world, so the ending makes sense to me. Lose a bit of impact if I had just played through it though, which I haven't yet. Sorry, I am in serious pinching pennies mode now. And when I get a chunk of change in, I have to debate whether or not I actually end up going for a new videogame or just build up a cash reserve.

It's a hard ending to grasp even if you've played the game, watching it with no context almost guarantees confusion. :)

Yes there is more to American history than racism, but racism is severely downplayed in many cases including a lot of our schools. So it's good to adress it in art. |
Just to add to your point and my own and to show grossly misinformed Puggsly is

If you signed on to work for Irrational Games you should have known what you were getting into. Ken Levine seems to hate all idealogies (so long as they are practiced consistantly) so why would Christianity get a pass?
Just look at what he implied regarding two atheistic belief systems ... in Bioshock 1 he implies that Objectivism is evil belief system that will lead only to ruin. The same is said about Socialism/Marxism in Bioshock 2 (I know Levine was not involved with that game, but based on what he did with Bioshock 1 and 3 I can safely say he would have likely done most of the same things that the Bishock 2 designers did anyways).
These people having nothing to complain about. It would be like voluntarily joining the Nazis at the height of WWII and then proceeding to complain about commiting crimes against humanity. You know who these people are, and this is what you signed on for.
I knew this game would be anti American/Christian/Republican from the moment I saw the first concept art and videos.
