Forums - Sony - Remote Play on Vita inferior to Wii U gamepad?

Furthermore, Sony's vision is to allow streaming of all games to multiple devices, not just limited to the vita. They didn't just spend 250 million or whatever it was on a whim, they had his planned for a very long time and were waiting for the perfect opportunity to showcase their vision (ps4). The ps move was a reaction to the wii, but remote play is something Sony has wanted to get right for a while and finally have the tech to get the job done, which has nothing to do with the wii u, hell they may have been more influenced by microsofts smart glass than the wii u.

Yes, I think this time Sony got it right.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

That was a common problem when I used OnLive. We'll see how it works in the final form. Well, I won't, because it requires a Vita. But there's time for improvement.

Did you get a chance to use Gaikai before the shut the service down after the Sony take over? While i never used onlive, I did try Gaikai and even over my crappy 3g card i was able to play games at an acceptable level. Did it lag? yes, but i was also on a 3g network. Now that i have better internet I'd expect it would run butter smooth. Plus when you think about it, your PS4 and vita talk directly with each other, skipping the latency of the internet.

I always hated remote-play discussions. They always turn into SONY vs Nintendo bull shit. This and the WiiU have two very different goals.

The WiiU controller is an extension of the console and is meant to add to the experience much like the second screen on the NDS. Same goes for the NGC and GBA connectivity.

Remote-play is what it's name implies. It's literally remote access to your console from your portable handheld/laptop/phone. It adds nothing to the game/experience. It's just a way of accessing your games and media on your system away from home. I've used it on my PSP just do have access to my videos on an external HDD connected to my PS3 at home.

THESE TWO FEATURES AREN'T EVEN TRYING TO DO THE SAME THING.

The only case in which SONY tried to do something similar to the WiiU was a sub-app in remote-play called Cross-Controller. That added to the game. Namely LittleBigPlanet 2, literally turning it into a 5 player game instead of 4. Aside from this one instance, Remote-Play and and WiiU have been to completely different features with different purposes all-together.

This, i was thinking about writing something similar. Thank you, level headed people get it. Sounds like a new thread to me.

Is it just me or does remote play between the Vita and PS4 seem like its less than 20 frames per second? In the Knack demo they showed the game looked like it was skipping frames just to keep up with the game. Check out the youtube clip and tell me what you think.

It's a nice proof of concept but it's nothing that will become widespread.

What are you talking about? It's hardware level, it will remote play all ps4 games that don't use motion controls or body tracking. Its already been stated by sony, this is a full fledged feature.

The combination of someone owning both a Vita and a PS4 will not become widspread. So it's nice to have concept that is proven but if it doesn't become widespread it will have little impact on the console biz.

It seems to skip fewer frames than the Wii U interface and that console was out for five months already.

The discussion isn't about the impact on the console biz, even if 100 percent of ps4 owners had a vita, it wouldn't impact the console biz. So what's your point? Besides it's fairlly likely the people who own a vita, will or at some time own a ps4. Stop trying to down play it.
