Forums - Nintendo - So now the Wii U can run UE 4 games...

this is no different to what he said previously...
in that he did say that if a dev wanted to use ue 4 for a game on wii u they could...
but in addition to that he also said that their focus is on next gen consoles currently ( as he reiterates here )

So UE4 games can be scaled down to Wii U, but there's not much point when UE3 is perfectly acceptable fit for the platform.

Did I get that right?

Actually, Crytek 3 requires a lot more Hardware Power then Unreal 4.

The Wii U runs Crytek 3 at 100% and beautifully at that.

So the Wii U can run a Unreal 4 port without it being scaled down.

But Unreal 3 on PS3 & 360 is already scaled down, so Unreal 4 would be further scale down on PS3 & 360.

In fact graphics wise, well Crytek 3 does almost every different thing way better then Unreal 4, but Unreal 4 does do 2 things in graphics much better then Crytek 3.

Basically Unreal is the Angry Birds of Engines.........while Crytek is the "Halo 4/Last of Us/Shin Megami Tensei cross Fire Emblem" of engines.

(does this help U understand?)

They can run Unreal 4 port at 100% (NO down scale) on Wii U, but it wouldn't be running Natively on the Wii U is all.

I doubt that. Crysis 3 is a CryEngine 3 game and there are plenty of PCs more powerful than the Wii U that can't run such a game on the highest setting.

However, I do believe Wii U could probably run something like Crysis 3 with high or mid-high settings equivalent. Unreal Engine 4 definitely shouldn't take as much downporting as it would on PS3 or 360.

Like I asked Ethomaz, where's the quote?

He never said that. He said that their focus wasn't the UE 4 on the Wii U and that the system already has UE 3, he never mentioned the possibility of scaling down the engine (this was mentioned but almost a year ago).

Nintendo and PC gamer

We already knew it was scalable but doesn't mean it will look anything like the games that use the full potential of the engine.

The funny thing is he said things START to get interesting at 1tflops+, meaning even at 1tflops it still isn't at it's full potential.

"if a customer decides they want to port an Unreal Engine 4 game to Wii U, they could."

Wonderful news! Maybe now this thread won't get locked by Mr Khan.

“If someone wants to take Unreal Engine 4 and ship a game on Wii U, they can! If they wanna ship an Unreal Engine 4 game on Xbox 360, they could make it happen.” While that game might not look as pretty as it would on a “true” next-gen console, the new engine is scalable to a variety of platforms, including mobile."

For some reason his comment is much more negative than yesterday. UE4 could probably run on the psp too, just not as beautful on next gen consoles.

If I get this right, what Epic meant is that UE4 is not going to be developed for WiiU, but if a developer takes the time to make the engine work there in the console it can be possible. At least this is what I get.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Ok now I'm confused. The verb "could" here is used in a past sentence right? I mean developers "could" make (before but not now) a port of an UE 4 game, the way I see it (English is not my native language btw) it means a past sentence. Isn't the correct verb "can"? So the whole sentence should have been: "if a customer decides they want to port an Unreal Engine 4 game to Wii U, they can."

before that the whole tone of the sentence is future tense "decides"... imo its pretty clear what was being said
