Counterstrike is a high skill shooter for tournaments where skandinavian and german progamers go nuts.
The competitive level of that shooter is unreached with any Shooter in this Gen.Only Arena Shooters of past "PC Gens" are really comparable though none of them was really teambased.
CoD was and is always a Casual twitch shooter franchise made to be played by everyone.It has a skill cap unlike Counterstrike.Not everyone can play or even reach that level of skill.
Its like saying Halo Wars could have been the Starcraft of this Gen :D

World at War was a great sequel to COD4. Improved upon things in the multiplayer, added zombies, imo, a better, more touching campaign and even though nobody used it, co-op campaign.

Right, I'll agree that World at War was a great sequel overall, but it went back to the World War-theme and there was fatigue at that point.

I don't agree with the "more touching" thing, however. World at War was more gruesome but less touchy-feely than Cod4.

Remember how 32bit sounded so much better than 16 and 8bit. Ever since the Dreamcast nobody cares what the bit depth of the CPU is anymore. Now we have arguments over RAM and GPUs. It all sounds like PC hardware debates.
