I think the best way to end the series would be to create a bookend for Skyward Sword, so to speak. A game that cleverly wraps up the cycle... or even better - alters the cycle enough for a successor IP in the land of Hyrule.

Destiny's Bungies seems HALO masked. It's like they just change the name. If you mean that with Zelda, i have no problem at all. But Zelda has made their name out of different plots in their 25 + years old. there is a reason why is so popular. Skyward Sword didn't sell that well because Wii was almost done, and 3+ millions is nothing to sneez about.

Yeah, Sony and Microsoft at least had the common decency to end such series as God of War and Halo once those storylines wrapped up, amirite?

First of all there are no Zelda timelines. There are Zelda games but if you try to make sense out of them... well then good luck with that, And Nintendo is not known for stopping its major franchises any if they make them money. And I think The Legend of Zelda does not need to stop it needs to change.

Skyward Sword was so terrible, that I would be offended if it ended there.

Zelda is a franchise that needs a rebirth/reboot. Not a death sentence though.
