Everything matters. A game is a whole package, and not just about gameplay. If not everyone would just be playing angry birds (and mario games by the way) instead.

Then why were games like Sly Cooper bash for its graphics even though the game look great, plays great and have a very creative story.

who bashed Sly Cooper for its graphics?

I will have to disagree, coming from a person who enjoys RPG's/action-adventure games/ hank n' slash I value both story and gameplay...

just this year I've played Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch; probably one of the best RPGs this gen(contender for one of the greats of all time) perfect mix of action and atb along with a fantastic story to boot

or God of War: Ascension, not to great on the story but probably the greatest gameplay of the series

When it was first shown at last year E3. 2012

Don’t follow the hype, follow the games

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

I have no idea.  The graphics were actually nice.

games that are style over substance have and always will exist, same for games that a pure mechanics. Seek out what you like there are all kinds of games released every year, complaining that tech demos don't show gameplay is just stupid and pointless. They are called tech demos because they are designed to show tech, if you are not interested in pure tech then ignore them they are not for you anyway they are designed for other developers first and foremost which is why they are shown at GDC. Great presentation improves the overall package, I would rather play a game with great gameplay and great presentation than one with horrible presentation and great gameplay.

If a game has poor graphics I see no problem pointing that out, presentation is very important to some people. If that doesn't bother you just ignore that part of the review or comments or whatever,

No more "no more"! Try "anymore", no more just sounds hillbillyish (no offence)

I'll agree that graphics are overrated and the arguments around specs are getting ridiculous, but I won't take it to the extremes you are. Gameplay is still king.

Fun Fact: Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time was the first PS3 exclusive to be bash for its graphics. W.T.F!?

I never read a review complaining about the graphics.   The graphics in fact are really nice and get the job done of a cartoony adventure game.  I like them.   Obviously from a technical standpoint it does not hold a candle to Uncharted 3 or GOW: Ascension, but it does not mean that it looks bad.

I have it too and I enjoyed it a lot.  A fun plat to hunt XD (but I hated bentley's arcade machines argh!)

More of the same, easy, and didn't improve going into next generation.  You realize that people are going insane over minecraft right now right?

Without gameplay its not a game but a movie. No matter how pretty a game is, if its gameplay sucks it will be unplayable.

Most people just ignore gameplay because most every game thse days is just a clone of another and no one is trying any new gameplay styles. Thus why everyone just says gameplay is not important. Cause every game plays like one another.

I agree. Just look at all the comments on games after they are revealed, they are all about how good it looks. Ppl are ready to blast a franchise but when a trailer pops up showing new better graphics, all is forgotten and suddenly ppl can't wait to play it despite knowing nothing about the game except for what was physicaly possible to see with our eyes.

I'll say that the PS4 sharing aspect that they showed is really what got me interested, but other than that, all we saw were games with pretty graphics like Infamous or Deep Down, and that was enough to make sooooo many ppl on the internet say ''this is a day 1 buy for me''. Rly?! All they showed was graphics that were better than previous gen and that is what you need to say ''day 1''? No questions asked?
