Forums - Gaming - Epic confirms: Unreal Engine 4 is NOT coming to Wii U

Between the mediocre Gears judgment, and foolish childish statements like these, I'm beginning to understand why Cliffy B jumped ship from Epic.

Around the Network

epic and EA laughing at wiiu and don't consider it next gen, good luck nintendo your gonna need a miracle to recover from this. unreal real engine 4 and frostbite 3 will be used for many nextgen games, many third party developers have jumped on  unreal engine 4 band wagon, i think it was like 40%.

This is a non-issue for me for the simple reason that I get sick and tired of seeing so many games made on the Unreal Engine as it is. I understand that some developers simply don't have the time or money to make their own game engines....but at the same time, I'm sorry....it just kind of strikes me as fucking lazy. And quite frankly, a LOT of the UE games I see, literally look the same.

I value two things above all else when it comes to video games: fun gameplay, and creativity of design, in that order. Graphics, sound, story, everything else is garnish. Those two key things are fundamental, I honestly feel a lot of modern games HAVE basically become "cut and paste".

I will keep buying Nintendo consoles for their exclusive like I always have. Considering I own multiple consoles not having a multiplat doesn't effect me at all. Besides if you enjoy Nintendo exclusive more than 3rd party multiplats you would still need the Wii U.

Does it suck that Nintendo isn't going to get multiplats? Yes
Does it effect me or anyone who loves Nintendo games? Nope (unless Nintendo goes under, which will never happen)

It does effect you though.

Do you honestly think shareholders will be happy with Gamecube or N64 level sales after the Wii?  Having terrible 3rd party support does hurt the console big time.  People talk about how huge Mario and Zelda are but they werent able to raise Nintendo to high console sales on their own.

Its increasingly looking like Wii U is the next GameCube, not the next Wii

I'd argue in this case, developers are treating the WiiU much more like its predecessor than the GameCube. The Cube, at least, got some pretty hefty, exclusive 3rd party support at one point.

This whole mess is a little bit of everyone's fault. Nintendo, 3rd parties, and the Wii's own fanbase for not supporting many non-Nintendo titles as good as Sony and Microsoft's fanbases did in similar situations..

Never, ever, ever blame the fanbase.

Ever. Third parties fail because they're failures. Plan and simple.

It's not to say the fanbase "are to blame", but if 3rd parties don't support a system, all factors need to be considered, including what the consumer was/wasn't interested in.

in terms of WIi the consumers were getting exactly what they wanted and third parties did deliver. Its just its not the games that the vocal minority wanted to play and the games they did want to play didnt comet to Wii.

Is he saying because its underpowered or because they dont want to port it? Im confused as to what focusing on porting to PS4 and 720 means. He did say it was possible to port it before so i dont know what to believe anymore. Why are these articles never specific and to the point? Are the people asking the questions brain dead or something?

FROM IGN

"Following an Unreal Engine presentation at 2013's Game Developer Conference, Rein clarifies his response to IGN, still laughing, "I just laugh at the question...Unreal Engine 4, we're not PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, or Wii U. It's next-gen technology. That's what we're aiming for."

basically power wise wiiu is currentgen, and unreal engine 4 is for nextgen technology.

Wii U is doom3d because itz got noz unreal engine 4'

i will let you know at E3 but from what i heard it will be the most used engine for next gen by thrd party's. sumertain and the new demo would be on my buy list if they became games.

The Wii U was not designed to compete with the super high fidelity graphics of the PS4/720/PC/Steambox. If that's what you want, you have more than ample options.

Nintendo's best bet is to focus on indie developers if they want Western support and finance/secure exclusives in that market space as it's probably quite cheap to do so.
