According to the article he is banned for life from the Greek national team, but not from club football. I guess if he plays really well, his lifetime ban will be lifted. Wouldn't be the first time that a football player gets booted from the national team and returns a few years later.

He was the under-19 greek national team captain (he's 20 now), so it may happen.

Greek youth are becoming more right wing as their financial crisis continues, they gather around the banner of the Golden Dawn (Nazi's) which have won some seats in parliament, Greeks are quite anti-foreigner, and anti-minority (They don't offically recognise other races in Greece), it's a hostile country for minorities, more so than any other EU country, although there are some in Greece trying hard to control these influences

What that man did wasn't an accident

Eh.  Greece has a huge racism problem, but more then any other country feels like an exageration

What with Poland, Bolgaria and such.

This guy knew exactly what he did, onyl 100% naiv would believe that he didn't knew what he is doing-therefore being banned from the greek national team is alright as international football is about international dialogue and there is no place for natio-fascism.

Being completely banned would be against the law and wrong as he has the right to express himself and this right should not be undermined by another fascism (political correctness)as the nazis don't have a monopol on the roman salute.

To defend him not knowing it was a nazi salute or that it wasn't a nazi salute but something else is pretty silly.

He is Greek, not American. Every Greek (every European) kid knows what a nazi salute is.

He should therefore, unlike some Americans, understand what that salute stands for. He is aligning himself with an organization that, among other things think it is lawful for the unconditional slaughter (to the point of extinction) of people because of their race.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and if you too think that's it is alright or cool to "support" such a regime then that's your choice.

The powers that be in this case thinks it is not.

Years ago many people believe that such things as the holocaust will happen again. It will happen, they say, when the generations to come forget what it was all about and (or) try to re-establish it as something of a cool retro.
It seems like this time is fast approaching, if not already here.

Im proud of him. He shouldnt be banned for showing his loyalty to a worthy cause.

Eh fair enough.   Greece is like France in that regard.

As soon as poverty is rising racism is growing. That happens in most countries, especially in those countries where illegal minoroties(like the muslim albans in greece)are racists themselves and are very criminal.

compared to other balkan countries (romania, albania, kosovo or the states of former yugoslavia-except slovenia)racism in greece was on a pretty low scale.

No, Greece goes even further by persecuting it's Minorities extensively, France is tolerant by comparison
