Forums - Gaming Discussion - Software Will Not Boost Wii U Hardware Sales

Ok chaps, why don't we just call it a day, archive it and revisit it at the end of the year. This chap may be right or wrong. There can be no other possibility.

I have some remorse, so I am off to play MH3U on my doomed console. Anyone care to join in?

I'm in. I will buy my MH3U tomorrow :)

The lack of these big-name 3rd party titles is what killed the Wii.(Of course Nintendo had some part in this as well)

Even though Wii U is getting some big games such as AC and Watch Dogs, its still missing some major franchises. The ones it did get didn't sell very well at launch so I think the future of 3rd party support for Wii U won't be much different than that of the Wii.

Wii was the best selling console till 2010 without any of these big-name 3rd party titles. What killed it was the fact that after 2010, Nintendo stopped supporting it.

The lack of the biggest, most popular titles out there caught up with the Wii. People weren't going to continue purchasing a console that lacks a ton of good games. People keep saying Nintendo has lost the casual audience but looking at sales of Wii games last year, what sold the most last year? Just Dance 4. I say Nintendo lost and has been losing that "core" gamer for years.

It wasn't until 2011, concidentally the year that Nintendo stopped supporting the Wii, that it slowed down sales-wise. Before 2011, Wii also didn't had any of the biggest, most popular titles out there(except CoD) and it was way ahead of the PS3/360 sales wise.

It's been said before but the Wii was a fad. It was riding that wave of popularity until that wave crashed onto the shore. Wii Sports alone sold 50% of the Wii's out there.

Without the casuals backing Nintendo this time and without 3rd party support, the Wii U might become another Gamecube.

Why do these threads keep popping up? When I first bothered to start being active in the VGChartz community, I got the impression that people on here were a bit more mature and quite a bit less "ha ha Nintendo is going to fail". But the more I read, the more I'm getting the impression I was wrong.

Big software ALWAYS boosts sales for ANY console. The OP's "point" about "OMG look at all these COOL GAMES coming out for PS4" is rather moot. Yes, Wii U won't be getting some of those. Fancy. That doesn't mean by any stretch that Wii U won't be getting a bigger share of 3rd party games than Wii did, nor does it imply that the system won't pick up in sales, which is rather absurd to assume.

I really don't know, but everyone "says" GCN.

It's you. You cursed the site when you registered. I hope you're happy.

He's right though. Nintendo wanted to emphasize the "Gamecube" part before the "Nintendo" part, so they went with GCN. *shrug*

This thread instantly became pretty funny. All it took was Lego and Monster Hunter -- two games everyone insisted couldn't push hardware in America -- to triple Wii U sales from the week before, giving it almost a 20k boost. And it's probably STILL undertracked, just like last month, and just like everything else looks to be this month.

Man, imagine when BIG games come. Pikmin 3 should do well.

Honestly, a 20k boost is too good to be true.

Now here's a fork, you now what you have to do.

Just wait for NPD... we'll see how true 20k is. Everything else is undertracked massively, why would the Wii U alone be overtracked?

It has also been said before that the Wii was not a fad. In fact, a lot of things have been said before, but they aren't all true. What's your point?

NGC is Wii: Nintendo Gamecube with new Controls.
