Forums - Sales Discussion - Just out of pure curiousity: Do "japanese" figure include all asian sales?

"Also, I am guessing that South American sales are included in others and not in America. Video gaming has been big in Brazil (from Digiplay to Tec-Toy)"

True, but they're generally a generation behind most of the world. Import taxes are crazy, which really hurts current gen sales. PS2s are still crazy prices out there, but piracy is huge, so they end up saving on software.

Mexico is not part of north america though..

I think its OTHERS as well.

Why do so many people from the US not know geography? In truth all of what is called central America is classed as North America... that's everything North of Panama. There are 15 countries in North America, 10 on the mainland and 5 in the Carribean. There may actually be more as I am not sure whether the islands East of Puerto Rico are classed as N.A or S.A

I had no clue, I thought north america was canada an the United states alone, I also thought mexico was part of central america, but now it seems all of central america is north america, very interesting.. they why do they call it central america? If its part of North america?

no offense, but is shit like this that keep giving the US culture a bad rap. Pretty much the only people I've seen categorizing the other countries as central america are americans (US), and maybe canadians, I have never seen a person where I live call it central america. Imo, it could feel as if those countries are being discriminated because they're not 'good enough' from the americans' eyes.

Central America is a widely used term outside of US too, at least in English speaking countries it is. Having said that Mexico isn't in Central America anyway.

I have the same question for america, are you refering as the WHOLE continent (like i thing it should be) or only US and Canada or only US sales?? is Mexico, central and south america included in America or in "others"?

Im from Mexico, and here i learn that North America is Mexico, US and Canada, while central america includes alll countrys between mexico and columbia, from Columbio to Argentina is called South America. But it seems that US people learn that US is America, Canada is Canada and Mexico and everything else is Latin America, i really dont understand that :S.

Many international sites include Mexico in north America, though i dont remember at this time

According to the methodology page, American numbers include all of North and South America (though Canada and the US obviously provide the enormous bulk of these sales).

I live in South America and I believe that consoles here pass through US first so maybe all sales in this region are already counted in the North American section

It depends if they're official imports, or grey (parralel) imports. Official imports won't be counted in US sales, grey imports will.

No offense either, but just because you think something should be labelled a certain way doesn't make it a universal truth. Just because people refer to a portion of the planet in a different way than you doesn't mean their culture is any worse than your own. Perhaps your culture has the issue because it doesn't match mine?

I do agree that a lot of US citizens don't know anything about geography. However, refering to the center part of the Americas as "Central America" is simply more discriptive than referring to the whole of North America. It seems like the only reason you think it's "incorrect" is because you think the only applicable labels are for entire continents. This logic would make it wrong to use labels like East/West Europe, Central Asia, Middle East, etc etc.

However, refering to the center part of the Americas as "Central America" is simply more discriptive than referring to the whole of North America. It's the same thing as refering to the western portion of Europe as West Europe. It's simply a more discriptive than saying Europe. It's certainly not something to get in a twist about.

yeah I came off a bit too harsh, I apologise, and I understand your point.
