I am sorry to read this. Hopefully you'll buy another one.
Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Anyway, when I was doing some research on the mating habits of the female species of the homo-sapien, my PS3's browser froze up. I turned the console off. It never worked again. Now, I just get a flashing red light. This REALLY sucks because I gave away my PS2 since my 80GB PS3 (MGS4 Bundle) was backwards compatible. I guess I'll order a slim PS3 online or something. Anyway: -Will my digital purchases be available on the new PS3? I bought a LOT of digital games over the years. Even if I don't play them, I still want to have access to them. Is it going to work? -Will my movies still be there? I want to know because, in the past, I found out that you can only download movies from the PSN once. You can copy them or whatever but once you delete them, they're gone forever. Some copyright thing, I guess. I had a lot of movies backed up on my portable HDD but there were still a few on the PS3. The Hunger Games, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, and The Avengers come to mind. Are they gone forever? -Can I recover my game saves? It took me like three years to finally finish Valkyria Chronicles. I was in the middle of a playthrough for Dead Space 2 so that I could buy Dead Space 3 (yeah, I hear it sucks. Shut up.). If I still have the HDD from the 80GB, is there a way to copy saves to the new PS3? -Why do things we love have to die? I loved you, PS3. I loved you! Why did you have to leave me so soon? WHY!?
It's funny. I got my PS3 at the midnight launch of Metal Gear Solid 4 (heck, it was the MGS4 PS3 bundle). The game in the PS3 when it died was Metal Gear Rising. Metal Gear was the first and last series that PS3 ever knew.
Rest in peace, my friend. You served me well. |
Your PS3 went out like a Boss.
-All movies and games are tied to your username so yes they are safe. Just go to psn login and download list on the top right corner of psn.
-For game saves it depends on the problem with your ps3. If you had psplus with the cloud then it would be no problem at all. Either way though, you can swap out the HDD on your ps3 with another one and see if that works, if it was a HDD failure though then thats that. Personally i don't see the attachment gamers have to save files but overall i think you should be able to get them back.
- I think its a great time for a slim. Especially since you probably needed that extra space. Good luck :D

Call Sony and see if you can get it repaired or exchanged.
Even if it's not under warranty it would be cheaper than buying a new one. You might even get them to do it for free, if you haggle customer service you might get a "one time free repair" regardless of warranty.

Have you tried unplugging it from the wall and plugging it back in?
Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Red Flashing light means an overheating problem. Before giving up hope i'd try cleaning it out the vents with a vacuum cleaner

Since it is a fat PS3 he can unscrew the whole thing without any special screwdriver bit. He could do a full clean with some compressed air and a cloth.

game saves might be still there if nothing happened to the hard drive. you can simply take out the hard drive and put it in your new ps3

Well, I gotta work tonight from 6pm to 6am. I tried the vacuum thing yesterday. I guess I'll unscrew it tomorrow and see what I can do. Gotta sleep right now....right after I do some research with my Wii U.
